Move over, Radiant Orchid! There's another shade of purple that's looking to take the Color of the Year spot. Pastel purple ruled the runways at Milan and New York Fashion Weeks for both Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. This pale shade is all set to be a huge trend in 2014- so will it win a spot in your wardrobe?
Whether it's in the form of an elegant gown, a minimalist mini-dress, or a killer handbag, pastel purple is a versatile hue that makes a bold statement. Though soft and dreamy, it doesn't have to be full on girly-girl, depending on how you style it. What is it, however, is one of those most universally flattering colors, looking great against any skin tone or hair color.

Know your colors
The first step is knowing which shade of pastel purple will look best on you. It's easy: if you're warm toned, opt for purples with pink undertones. If you're cool toned, opt for a blue-based purple. The next step is knowing which colors to wear it with. While you can colorblock with other pastels (blue and green, for example), you risk looking a little too "sweet." Instead, think neutrals such as brown, black, cream, and white. Another tip is to never try wearing two shades of purple together, such as pairing your pale purple shirt with a deeper eggplant pant- it won't work.
Play with pattern and texture
If you love the color, but don't want to risk looking like an easter egg, play with pattern and texture to find your look. For example, give your ensemble a graphic feel by going for a geometric print in purple, blue, white and black. You can add an edgy textured fabric to your look like leather or suede. Silhouette also plays a big part in your overall look, avoid anything with too many frills and opt instead for a simple shift or A-line cut.
