2016 Grammy Awards makeup: nude and smoky!

The 58th annual Grammy Awards brought Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, Ciara and many more to the red carpet on Monday, February 15, 2016. As usual guests pulled out all the stops for music's biggest night of the year and their looks did not disappoint!

Nude & Smoky, Defined & Simple

Great makeup is the all-important finishing touch to any ensemble and, after having a closer look, it was clear that being on the event's guestlist wasn't all these stars had in common: this year there was one major beauty trend that we couldn't ignore! Faux-nude complexions and lips, heavy smoky eyes and thin liner were seen time and time again at the 2016 Grammys. Let's take a closer look...

The first step to a nude beauty look is a flawless, natural base! Ellie Goulding and Chrissy Teigen unified their skin tone with a perfectly matched liquid foundation, then subtly sculpted their cheekbones with a nude blush. Demi Lovato brightened her complexion with highlighter for a glowy boost.

Perfectly controlled eyeliner subtly defined the eyes of Bella Hadid, Anna Kendrick, and Kaley Cuoco to give the appearance of thicker lashes without the need for falsies. Meanwhile, Selena Gomez , Ciara, Zendaya and Carrie Underwood opted for neutral smoky eyes to give their looks more drama.

The lips were also faux-nude, with many opting for satin finished in lieu of gloss or matte formulas. No makeup mishaps here: the stars all went for nude tones no more than 1-2 shades away from their own skin tones.
