Cleanse, tone, and moisturize: these are the skincare basics everyone should abide by! But if the fresh-faced, radiant look is what you're after, then you're going to have to put in a little extra effort! To help you out, we've put together our top 5 tips for a better skincare routine:
No amount of serums, masks, or moisturizers will provide you with beautiful skin if you aren't applying then to clean skin! Of course, don't be mistaken for thinking clean = tight and dry, your skin should still feel supple and hydrated post-wash. To make sure your skin is cleansed gently but effectively, we suggest removing any traces of makeup with micellar water before following up with a proper cleanser.
When it comes to finding a great skincare routine, knowing your skin type is half the battle! Skin types normally fall into one of three categories: oily, dry, and sensitive. If you have dry skin, you'll want to stick to hydrating products like oils, balms and milks. Oily skin types can handle slightly more drying products like foams and gels. Finally, those with sensitive skin should always look for fragrance-free products!
Don't pile it on!
Think about it: what chance does the 10th product you've layered onto your face have of penetrating your skin before it evaporates or rubbing off on your pillow? The answer: none! Once you've cleansed your skin, keep it simple by toning, applying a targeted serum, and finish with a layer of moisturizer.
Never skip your SPF
We've said it before, we'll say it again: don't skip your SPF! This goes especially for those of you who use chemical exfoliants in the evening. To avoid adding in that extra step in the morning, opt for a tinted moisturizer or foundation with built in SPF, but make sure you apply it generously to get enough protection.
Take your time
If you spent 15 minutes applying your makeup in the morning, then you should spend at least that much time taking it off at the end of the day! Once you've removed all traces of makeup, spend several minutes massaging the cleanser into the skin before rinsing it off. The bonus? A gentle massage does wonders for improving circulation!
