American Music Awards 2016: The best dressed celebrities on the red carpet

by Paige Exell -

Last night, as the snowflakes started to fly at home, we cuddled up on the couch to watch music's biggest stars at the 2016 American Music Awards live from the Microsoft Theatre in Hollywood. The night was all about celebrating the hottest hits from 2016 and the talented artists who made them happen. Hosted by supermodel Gigi Hadid and SNL alum Jay Pharoah, the megawatt duo delivered a killer show that included high energy performances by Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, among others, and a glittering red carpet.

Although Gigi had about five fabulous outfit changes throughout the night, celebrity attendees also caught our attention with their glam red carpet gowns and beauty looks. Never shy to try tricky trends or daring outfits, the music world took over the fashion department last night. From micro minis, jumpsuits, shorts and exposed bras, read on to find out which trends red carpet regulars like Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss , Hailee Steinfeld, Ciara and Lady Gaga wore to last night's AMA's.

AMA'S 2016: THE TOP RED CARPET TRENDS

PANT SUITS

Bulgarian-Canadian actress Nina Dobrev and Lady Gaga both opted for spectacular suits, one sleek and modern, the other jewel crusted. Despite it being November, Nina opted for a pair of black and silver shorts with a matching blazer layered over a black bustier. She matched her beauty look to her edgy, shiny outfit wearing metallic silver eye shadow, and two French braids that were engraved into one side of her hair and decorated with silver sparkles.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga went with a sleek and modern, all-white pant suit and in true Lady Gaga fashion, topped it off with an oversized hat.

Others like Bella Thorne opted for a pair of black pants, a black blazer and exposed bra – a look that spoke that was equally as daring as her red and green hair!

METALLIC SHIMMER

While Nina Dobrev opted for a black and silver metallic look, Heidi Klum went for a warmer, gold metallic jumpsuit with green and orange embellishments and a bow neckline. She kept her makeup look equally warm, wearing golden brown shadow, bronzer on the cheeks and an illuminated complexion.

Hailee Steinfeld made her own lasting impression in the shine department, wearing a green (shorts) jumpsuit with matching green sequins, a plunging neckline, wide belt and a berry lip – talk about a statement!

FAIRYTALE PRINCESS

Selena Gomez returned to the spotlight last night following a career hiatus to focus on her mental health – and she made sure to make a statement on the red carpet! The singer wore a vibrant red, princess cut dress that made us swoon. She wore her hair in a low ponytail and kept her makeup natural-looking and slightly subdued for the perfect combination. We're happy to have you back, Selena!

LACE

Supermodel host Gigi Hadid may have had five outfit changes throughout the night, but it was her very first look that caught our eye. Gigi kicked off the night in a white lace, off-the-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown that set the bar sky high for everyone who followed.

Ariana Grande had a similar idea, wearing a black lace crop top with sleek white pants for a sophisticated, yet sultry look.
