Actress Peyton List arrives at the 2015 Radio Disney Music Awards on April 25 in Los Angeles.

Back to school: 5 hot hairstyles to make you top of the class!

by Samantha Hunt -

The summer vacation is almost over and that can only mean one thing: it's back to school time! With only a couple more weeks of freedom left, we wanted to get you ready with some last minute hairstyle homework, brought to you by some of our favorite bright, young up-and-coming stars of the screen and the classroom...

1. The half updo

When you are studying hard, the last thing you want is a bad hair day! Thankfully we have actress Peyton List to look to for inspiration, with her gorgeously smooth - and so simple! - half updo, with its pinned back sides to hold your tresses out of your way. Apply a rich hair oil from root to tip before blowdrying and always make sure to use a heat protection spray to keep your hair happy and healthy!

2. The ponytail

Whether it's a math test or gym on your timetable, the ponytail is definitely the high school staple to get you through the day! Use your fingers to create volumized texture around the crown of your head like Zendaya and secure with bobby pins and a mist of hairspray.

3. The bob

She may be one of our favorite teen fashionistas, but Kiernan Shipka is also our bright young muse of the moment when it comes to short haircuts! Blowdry your hair to the side to create a deep part before spritzing throughout with texturizing sea salt spray. Use your fingertips to work volume into this bedhead style and you're ready to roll!

4. Braids

Braids are summery, cute and so on-trend right now: the perfect hairstyle for starting the school year on a high! You could even take your inspiration from The Fosters star Maia Mitchell and try out a gorgeous braided crown, keeping the summer vacation going for longer!

5. Loose waves

There's only one hairstyle that fits a queen bee and that has to be Halston Sage's loose, honey colored soft waves! Massage a curl defining mousse into the roots of your hair before blow drying. Once your hair is 90% dry, spritz your locks with a curl defining spray before wrapping your hair into a bun and securing it with a hair tie. Leave to dry naturally like this for gorgeously loose and choppy curls!
