It may still be a month away, but once the holidays come to an end the new year is just around the corner, and you know what that means – new year, new you! Unfortunately, January tends to be a month of broken promises. Whether you vowed to exercise three times per week or change your diet for the better, resolutions can quickly start to feel like work, become hard to stick with, and are often abandoned by the end of the month.
But since we make resolutions with the goal of upgrading, our beauty routines are a great area in our lives to improve upon and an easy one to stick with. A few small tweaks to our regimens can make all the difference – and when you start to see results, you'll want to follow through with in the year ahead!
Read on for 5 skin care and makeup resolutions to make your beauty routine in 2017 one that you'll actually want to keep.
5 BEAUTY RESOLUTIONS FOR 2017
Cleanse your face in the morning and take your makeup off at night
It may seem like an easy resolution to stick to, but after a night out, sometimes all you want to do is hit the pillow, meaning taking off your makeup beforehand isn't always a priority. And often times when you wake up late for work in the morning, cleansing your face before applying makeup can also be skipped. This year, make taking your makeup off before bed and cleansing in the morning part of your daily routine. Your skin will thank you later!
Stay moisturized through the winter from head to toe
Staying moisturized from head to toe isn't just important during dry winters. It's important all year long if you want to maintain the foundation of youth for as long as possible. Introduce a selection of moisturizers, eye creams, hand creams, body lotions and hydrating lip balms into your skin care routine to keep your skin moisturized. For added benefits, choose creams that contain SPF to help prevent sun damage while you're at it!
Develop a proper morning and night routine
If you haven't already developed a proper morning/night skin care regimen, now is the time. It doesn't have to be a complicated 10-step routine, but it should cover the main concerns your skin will face during the day or through the night. For example, your morning routine should be about protecting your skin for the day to come. Think SPF, moisturizer, cleanser and exfoliants. Your night time routine on the other hand, should be about repairing your skin. Try introducing serums, anti-aging creams and moisturizers that will sink into your skin while you sleep.
Adopt a bold shade that you aren't used to
If there's one product you should add into your makeup bag for 2017, it's a makeup product that you aren't used to wearing. Think that bold shade of lipstick that you've always been too afraid to try, or a coloured liner. Even better, a winged liner that you've never got around to perfecting! 2017 is all about embracing your own individuality and experimenting with your makeup look to find out what suits you best.
Clean your makeup brushes regularly
It may seem like an obvious task, but many people forget – or neglect – to clean their makeup brushes regularly. Brushes full of dirt and grime are not going to do your complexion any favours, and can clog pores and cause breakouts. Make a vow to regularly clean your brushes once per week to rid them of lingering bacteria; your skin will thank you. And remember: A flawless complexion and makeup look starts with application!
