Beauty Dictionary: Dip-dyed hair

by Kathy Saunders -

Dip-dyed hair is pretty much what you're expecting it to be. It's basically just a colourful variation of ombre hair.

What's the difference?

As with an ombre-hair style , the hair is one colour at the roots and another colour at the ends. Ombre hair can be a slight lightening of the hair colour to create a surfy look, or it can be a denser, more noticable colour contrast.

With dip-dye, the colours tend to be both more defined and more vivid. The roots can start out blonde and the tips can be a completely different colour, like bright pink, for example.

Dip-dye is a great way to add a splash of colour to your hair. Any number of colour-combinations are possible. Contrast natural shades with each other or alternatively contrast natural shades with any colour you like. If you're feeling really brave, why not go multi-coloured? You know Lady Gaga would want you to...

Have some fun with your hair

This look works for practically any length or cut and looks great in a braid or chignon. The flash of colour adds a new and very bright dimension to any given hairstyle.
