Beauty Inspiration: 5 reasons to rock your natural hair this winter

by Paige Exell -

Last year, model Maria Borges made history on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show runway simply by rocking her natural hair. For the two years prior, she had worn extensions but opted to sport her afro in 2015, making her the first model to so for the iconic event. That empowered move made headlines around the world and inspired countless women to celebrate their natural beauty.

This year, we'll be seeing even more of that on the catwalk with hairstylist Sarah Potempa giving a carefree approach to the length and type of curl in order to embrace each woman's natural hair texture. Embracing your natural looks shows confidence in your own skin, and if the VS Angels aren't enough to inspire you to stick with what you have, Get The Look is giving you 5 reasons to adopt your natural hair texture and colour for winter 2016.

TO KEEP IT HEALTHY

When we regularly change the style and texture of our hair with hot tools like curling and straightening irons, we run the risk of damaging our hair, causing it to break off and fall out. To avoid damaging your hair this season, embrace your hair natural texture and set hot tools aside. If you'd like to spice up a boring curl or add a bit of texture to your naturally straight looks, look to a texture or beach spray for support, instead!

TO PREVENT IT FROM DRYING OUT

When the seasons change, we often like to make changes to our looks as well. One of the easiest ways to change up our look? Our hair colour! Rather than switching it up this season, consider embracing your natural hair colour to prevent dyes from drying out your hair. Remember: Your hair is already extra dry in the winter, so dying it often contributes to this problem!

Another reason to embrace your natural colour? Dark, grown out shades of blonde and classic shades of jet black and brown are having a serious moment right now!

TO GROW IT OUT

If you're one of the many women who have been trying to grow out your hair since you last cut it (with no success), consider sticking to your natural roots in order to promote growth. When you aren't using hot tools on your hair or drying it out with dyes and bleaches, your hair stays healthier and therefore, has a chance to grow!

IT'S STYLISH AND EASY

Like natural colouring, natural texture is a major hair trend this season, giving you all the more reason to embrace what you've got! Whether it's beachy waves, tight curls or straight locks, learn to love – and work with – your natural texture. You'll feel the most beautiful and yourself this way!

TO SAVE TIME

Less hot tools and styling? More time to focus on a killer makeup look or trend that you've been dying to try out all season. Better yet, more time to focus on perfecting your classic cat eye!
