Here at Get the Look we're big movie fans (see: Cannes Film Festival), especially when it comes to watching out for the most memorable beauty looks on the silver screen. There are have been a numerous amount of flicks over the years that have made us want to create our own Hollywood-inspired hair and makeup – from classics like Breakfast at Tiffanys or Gone with the Wind to more recent films like The Devil Wears Prada.
For her film Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts evolved from a street-walker to a high roller alongside her man, Richard Gere, while one of the most recent noteworthy transformations in a film was Natalie Portman in Black Swan who took on a look that went from dull to dramatic while performing on stage.
Hair and makeup are vital on any movie set, but out of the hundreds of films most of us have seen in our lifetime, there are only a few specific beauty looks that can be considered noteworthy. From Dionne's box braids and Cher's au naturale look in Clueless to Uma Thurman's femme fatale-inspired look in Pulp Fiction, it's obvious that a memorable beauty look must be intertwined with an equally successful performance on screen.
So whether you wish to be inspired to try your own Hollywood hairdo, or you simply want to re-live the most iconic beauty moments in film history, check out our top 7 picks of the silver screen's most famous looks!
DIONNE IN CLUELESS
Cher may have been the makeover pro in the movie Clueless, but we'd argue that Dionne had the better beauty game of the duo. With braids popping up on runways everywhere, it's safe to say that Dionne is the ultimate trend-setter with her braids and killer red lip.
OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN'S SMOKY EYE IN GREECE
One of our all-time favourite beauty transformations? Olivia Newton-John's conversion from a fresh and feminine natural beauty, to a full-on bad-girl that isn't afraid of a little smoky eye and red lip.
To achieve Sandy's makeup, start by unifying your complexion with a liquid foundation, and enhance your cheekbones with a peach-coloured bronzing powder. Next, use a dark grey or black eye shadow to coat your upper lids, extending slightly past the outer corners of your eyes. Coat your lashes with mascara, and apply a black liner along your lower lash line. As for the lips, use a glossy red hue and get ready to say "tell me about it, stud."
AUDREY HEPBURN'S BOLD LASHES IN BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS
From over-sized sunglasses to regal hair accessories, bold lashes and a classic cat eye, Hepburn was the epitome of Hollywood glamour in Breakfast at Tiffanys. To achieve lashes like hers, use L'Oreal's Voluminous Superstar Mascara that will give you Hepburn-worthy lashes in just two steps.
MOLLY RINGWALD'S FEMININE BEAUTY IN THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Molly Ringwald gave us some serious beauty envy in The Breakfast Club with her soft, feminine look defined by flawless fair skin, rosy pink cheeks, and matching pink lip-gloss. But I think we all know the more important aspect of her beauty routine: have you figured out how to apply lipstick with your cleavage yet?
To get her look, apply a light coloured foundation onto your skin to create a flawless base. For this we suggest a cushioned foundation for ultimate coverage. Next, apply a few coats of mascara to your upper lashes, a touch of rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks, and a hint of pink gloss and voila! You're ready for detention!
UMA THURMAN'S BANGS AND FEMME FATALE-INSPIRED BEAUTY IN PULP FICTION
Uma Thurman's choppy bangs and bob in Pulp Fiction are trends that have lived on throughout the years. For this year's spring-summer 2016 runway shows, bobs, bangs, and buzz cuts appeared on models encouraging daring beauties to take risks and choose a style that promotes individuality – with a little edge, of course. Also of note, is Thurman's nail colour in the film – a vampy, red – that proceeded to sell out everywhere following the film. Talk about a lasting beauty legacy!
JULIA ROBERTS VOLUMINOUS CURLS IN PRETTY WOMAN
Nothing warms our hearts like a good movie makeover. The transformation of Julia Roberts from sassy street-walker to opera attendee – and back to those fiery red curls again – is an all-time favourite.
To achieve Julia's Pretty Woman curls, start off by coating damp hair with a matt & messy spray. Scrunch the hair as you go to create volume. Once your hair is dry, apply a volumizing heat protective spray onto your hair. Next, section your hair off into two parts – top and bottom – securing one section first with an elastic. Next, use a small barrel curling iron to curl each strand of hair, piece by piece, curling extremely small strands as you go.
When you've completed curling the bottom section of your hair, release the top section from the elastic and begin again. In creating layers, this will add extra volume to your hair. When you've completed curling your entire head, spray your hair with L'Oreal's Volume Supersizing Spray and gently scrunch the curls as you apply to create added volume.
MENA SUVARI'S RED LIPS IN AMERICAN BEAUTY
Her starring role in Kevin Spacey's fantasies may be a memory you want to forget, but there's no denying that Mena Suvari's platinum blonde hair and red lip is a beauty look to be remembered.
