Does anything feel more deeply disappointing than messing up your makeup just before you're about to leave the house before a party? The season of the holiday soiree is upon us, and any practiced party girl knows that the secret to a night of breathtaking entrances and social media-worthy snaps lies in dressing up – from the neck up.
Unfortunately, we all mistakes – even when it comes to applying our perfect party makeup look. Whatever the mistake, there are ways to patch the job and still make it to the toast. Read on for advice on how to fix a makeup application gone wrong!
5 WAYS TO FIX A MESSED UP MAKEUP APPLICATION
If you're left with too much coverage on the skin and the finish on your face is too powdery, misting your face with a bit of water will break up the finish. If you don't have a misting spray, a wet paper towel pressed onto the skin will do the trick as well.
When cheek colour appears too streaky, reach for a tinted moisturizer and buff out the colour with it. Use a damp makeup sponge to gently pat the streaky lines and eliminate the mistake!
MASTER A NATURAL FLUSH
For blush, it's always easier to add colour than to take away when you've already added too much. Choose the blush placement depending on how intense you're going on either the eyes or lips. If it's a dramatic dark or bright lip, use blush to shape out the cheek. If it's a strong eye, use blush higher on the cheek rather than on the apples.
SOFTEN THE SMOKINESS
Foundation is great to use to clean up hard edges on the eyes when they're too smoked out for your taste. To add soft colour in a rush, take a diffusing shadow brush with a small hint of shadow and diffuse this onto the lids.
MATCH YOUR PERFECT MOUTH
A dark metallic eye always looks great with a sheer, hydrated lip. The texture of the metals in the eye and balmy texture on the lips look beautiful under low light. Alternatively, a matte red lip and dewy radiant skin always looks fresh and chic – plus, it's beautiful and timeless in photos. So, if you think you've chosen the wrong eye makeup, compensate by choosing the right lipstick!
