MAKEUP TIPS: 5 STEPS TO PROPERLY APPLY MATTE LIPSTICK
EXFOLIATE YOUR LIPS
Before applying a drying formula onto equally dry lips, exfoliate to prevent breakage and cracking. To do this, mix one tablespoon of brown sugar and a few drops of honey together in a small bowl to create a homemade lip scrub. Apply it onto your lips using a toothbrush, massaging the scrub back and forth on your lips until dead skin is removed. Rinse your lips the dry them with a clean towel.
After exfoliating your lips, use a nourishing lip balm to moisturize them. Apply the formula onto your lips, following by an everyday moisturizing cream, and let it soak into your lips for about 5-10 minutes. Before proceeding to the next step, remove excess balm and moisturizer using a tissue to prevent your lipstick from fading.
DRAW THE OUTLINE OF YOUR MOUTH
For a perfect application, use a lip liner that is the same colour (or similar) to the lipstick you'll be using to draw the outline of your mouth. Focus on your Cupid's bow for a more dramatic look. Fill in the surface of your lips with the liner to create a base that will make your lipstick colour pop.
Once you've prepped your lips with a liner, apply your matte lipstick. For a less drying effect, opt for matte liquid formulas. Allow the colour to dry for 2-3 minutes before proceeding the last step.
CORRECT ANY MISTAKES
Like any other lipstick, matte finish lipstick can create stains and overflow. Camouflage the damage by using a brush or Q tip to correct any issues and clean up the lines around your lips.
