Try a graphic eye makeup look to kick start your 2014.

Beauty tutorial: Graphic eyes

by Hannah Ikin -

As the season's change, so do we. We also love to switch up our beauty looks now and again as well. Over the holiday season, we rocked metallics, sparkles, and everything in between. However, with the new year upon us, we're ready to freshen up our looks and try something new for 2014.

Graphic lines

The charm of this trend lies in it's simplicity- think clean lines, minimal detail, and a good dose of edginess. It's a great beauty look to try out if you're wearing a monochrome ensemble, simple silhouette, or mix of neutral colors, as it works particularly well with toned-down, minimalist looks.

It's impossible to achieve this look to any degree of success without a good eyeliner. Ideally, you should use a kohl pencil. Before you start, make sure it's sharp enough to get the precision you require.

Get the look

Step one: Start by dabbing a small amount of highlighter onto the inner corners of your eyes. Calm your nerves, and with as steady a hand as you can manage, outline your lower lashline with the eyeliner pencil. Repeat for the upper lashline.

Step two: Take an eyeshadow in a shade as close to your natural skin tone as possible and apply to your eyelids, taking care not to blend.

Step three: Now for the fun part! Draw another line just above the crease of your eyelid, following the natural curve of your eyes. If you're feeling daring, add a cheeky cat-eye flick at the end (see photos for inspiration).

Step four: Add a couple of coats of mascara to your eyelashes. If you feel that the look is a little too harsh, then take a makeup brush and blend the eyeliner on your lower lashline slightly to soften the look.

So there you have it, a fresh new beauty look for 2014. Enjoy!
