Fashion Week is our window onto the next top trends, giving clues about what clothes we're going to be coveting next season. But the runway also gives us an insight into what hair and makeup looks are the next big thing. As well as admiring the stunning creations that glide down the catwalk, Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris is a wonderful occasion to admire all the different and daring makeup looks.
So, for Autumn-Winter 2014/2015, it looks like we are going to be going cuckoo for big bold eyeliner looks. Whether it was graphic lines, crazy colors or smoky and dramatic, eyeliner was far and away the most popular makeup among designers and makeup artists.
Eyeliner in all its forms
Atelier Versace opened the event on Sunday, July 6 in front of a celebrity-full front row. On the program: short hemlines, lamé, fur and a colorblocked makeup look to go with the bright collection.
Eyeliner is no longer limited to the lash line, it's moving on up, literally, and covering the entire lid for a new take on the cat eye in blue aquamarine tones. On the Ilja models we also saw the use of colored eyeliner with a pale blue kohl given a juicy injection of tangerine orange around the inner corner of the eye.
Despite these creative interpretations, the traditional black liner still held its own. The Fred Sathal models wore black eyeshadow outlined in black liner to emphasize the look, and at the Didit Hediprasetyo show we saw what was perhaps our favorite look: black eyeliner curving over the crease of the eyelid and outwards to create a totally unique arty doe-eye (think horizontal comma).
We're inspired! Are you?
