The top 5 bad beauty habits you need to break!

Breaking bad... beauty habits!

by Alice McGenniss-Destro -

We're all guilty of committing one or two (ok, a few) cardinal sins of beauty. Whether your regular routine needs a revamp or you just need to be reminded of the do's and dont's, we have polled the ladies and the lads of Get the Look to bring you the top 5 bad beauty habits you need to break!

Wash your face before bed

Sleeping with eye makeup on is one bad habit that can leave you with itchy, puffy eyes. No matter how tired you are when you get home, washing your face before bed is a must-do. Why? Leaving your makeup on overnight will increase your chances of developing an eye infection. Also, if mascara is left on (especially the waterproof type), it will tug at your lashes causing them to break off prematurely. Arm yourself with an eye makeup cleanser to keep your peepers perfectly clean!

Pay attention to expiration dates

We all do it: pump the mascara wand until it's nearly impossible to get anything else out of the bottle. Using old makeup, however, will not only perform poorly by dragging or streaking but it may contain bacteria, which can lead to irritations and, in the case of eye makeup, infections.

No more touching your face

Whenever you touch your face, you transfer whatever is on your hands onto your skin. Popping spots and scabs on your face can also lead to permanent scarring. Keep your hands at your sides, ladies!

No more leaving the house without sunscreen

In this day and age we're well aware of the damage that UV rays can have on our skin. Sunscreen is an obvious choice when you're spending the day at the beach or swimming pool, however, when it comes to running errands, it's easy to forget to apply. Adding a layer of sun protection to your daily routine will ensure your skin stays younger-looking for years to come!

No more using lemon juice to lighten your locks

This age-old trick for highlighting hair in summer should be avoided unless you want tresses like straw. A far healthier, and effective, way of cheating your way to sunkissed highlights is to use a gentle lightening cream!

Good luck!
