Red lips and retro waves, a classic vintage duo

Brie Larson at the Golden Globes: Red lips and retro waves, a classic vintage duo

by Paige Exell -

The 2017 Golden Globes continue in Los Angeles, California – and so does the line-up of glamorous gowns. The red carpet portion of the evening was characterized by glittery dresses, bold makeup looks and ultra elegant hairstyles. While celebrities like Olivia Culpo and Blake Lively preferred to bet on makeup looks that enhanced their natural beauty, Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson took us back to the Hollywood glamorous of the 1950's. The actress posed on the red carpet wearing a strapless red Rodarte gown adorned with embellishments at the bust.

To accompany her gown, Brie opted for a classic vintage duo: bright red lips and old Hollywood waves in her hair. Would you like to expore the retro goddess inside of you? Read on to find out how to master the art of red lips and satin-like waves like Brie Larson.

BRIE LARSON: OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOR AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES

A FLAWLESS RED LIP

Red lipstick is one beauty item that every woman should have in her makeup bag at all times. In an instant, it has the power to transform a casual day-time makeup look into an ultra glamorous evening look that's suitable for the red carpet. It also gives the woman who wears it a femme fatale-inspired look that can make just about anybody swoon.

For a perfect red lip, start off by drawing the outline of your lips using a liner pencil that matches the lipstick colour you're going to apply. Fill the surface of your lips slightly using the liner pencil to create a base for your lipstick to sit on top of. Then, adorn your lips with a deep and vibrant red lipstick like L'Oreal Paris' Colour Riche in Red Passion 297. Place a tissue between your lips and bite down to remove any excess colour that may end up on your teeth. And there you have it, iconic and seductive lips!

SILKY VINTAGE WAVES

On the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet, ourselves – and the stars – were left inspired by Brie Larson's Old Hollywood vintage waves. Both Naomie Harris and Winona Ryder adopted the look as well for a glamorous and timeless style inspired by the 1950s.

The first step to re-creating Brie's perfect waves is to apply Elnett Extra Strength Foam Cream onto wet hair from root to tip. Separate your hair off to one side and dry it with a round brush to bring volume to your roots. Using a large diameter curling iron, curl your hair starting from the middle of your head using large sections of hair. Once all of your hair is curled, spray a generous amount of satin finish hairspray onto your hair. The result? Beautiful, glamorous waves full of brilliance!
