Cannes 2014: Natasha Poly's chic chignon

Russian model and L'Oreal Paris brand ambassador Natasha Poly made her first Cannes 2014 appearance yesterday. The blonde beauty hit the red carpet along with Brazilian ambassadors Tais Araujo, Grazi Massaferi, and Isabeli Fontana, as well as American star Eva Longoria, and India's Freida Pinto.

In a black strapless dress with lace detailing and voluminous skirt, Natasha resembled a true "black swan." She carried the edgy look through with her makeup, which featured a super dramatic smoky eye and XXL lashes. Of course, it was the sleek chignon Poly was rocking that really caught our eye!

A look to try

Why try a chignon? The chignon is a classic hairstyle that's timeless and elegant, but can also be worn with such versatility that, as seen on Natasha, it can look modern and edgy, too. Whether worn super sleek or tousled, it's truly a style you can take anywhere!

Get the look

Step one: Smooth hair is key here, so use an old t-shirt instead of a towel to wring out extra moisture. As t-shirts have a smooth texture, they cause less friction and thus, less frizz! Next, spritz a heat-activated straightening spray throughout.

Step two: With the concentrator attachment on your hair dryer, use a paddle brush to dry the hair as smoothly as possible. If you still have some frizz or body in your hair after that, feel free to pass it over with a flat iron!

Step three: Create a side part and then put a small amount of gel through the hair on each side. Before the gel sets, comb your hair back to the bottom of the head and secure it with an elastic.

Step four: Grab sections of hair from the ponytail and roll them up toward the hair on all sides before securing them with bobby pins.

Step five: Spray your hair all over with strong-hold hairspray.

There you go, a red carpet-ready hairstyle right at your fingertips!
