Cannes Festival: makeup trends to look for on the Croisette

The 67th Cannes Film Festival starts tomorrow, and we imagine that the organizers are busy putting the final touches on the world's most famous movie festival. The red carpet is being vacuumed, ready to welcome the hundreds of celebrities who will walk along the famous Promenade de la Croisette. On the program: great movies and a serious dose of glamour.

It's not long to wait, but we thought we'd look back at last year's best makeup looks. From striking "I can't believe she dared!" to subtle "Is she even wearing any?!", we hope that this year's festival brings beauty like these five ladies did...

Dream tangerine

Everyone was talking about Barbara Palvin's bright orange eye makeup last year at Cannes! One year later, and we might call her a trailblazer, because orange is now one of the hottest colors to wear. Orange lips provide a fun alternative to red, and orange nails are a nice way to celebrate the spring.

Smouldering eyes

Where you find glamorous designer dresses and elegant hairstyles being worn by world-famous celebrities, you'll find many a smoky eye too. In 2013 Jessica Chastain went for this chic look, using a sparkly eyeshadow applied on the inner corners of her eyes, gradually blending into a charcoal grey.

Last year's biggest makeup trend, the nude look isn't an easy one to pull off. But Doutzen Kroes is a pro at natural-looking makeup, using nude shades to illuminate her skin and a jet black mascara on both the upper and lower lashes, making sure she didn't go unnoticed.

Graphic cat eye

We're seeing more and more graphic cat eyes on the runway and the red carpet, so we won't be surprised if the Croisette is crammed with creative interpretations this year. Back in 2013, singer Lana Del Ray worked this edgy gold and black version, no doubt sowing the seeds for the trend this year.

Wild in white

A tricky color to wear as makeup, Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks showed her daring side with this white eyeshadow. It's light enough to remain relatively subtle, but really emphasizes her brown eyes and the gem embellishments on her dress. Top marks, Selita!

Only a day to go before we see what celebrities have gone for this year!
