Last night, the fashion world came together in New York City to recognize and celebrate some of the most talented innovators in the industry at the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards. And what do you get when you combine one fashion's biggest night with some of the most stylish stars around? A sea of glitter, metallic, ruffles, cut-outs, bunny slippers (thanks to Lena Dunham), and a best-dressed list that never ends.
Every year, the bar is set incredibly high when it comes to pivotal red carpet moments (remember Rihanna's barely-there crystal gown?). You take the glitz and glamour of Hollywood's awards season and up the ante with an attendee list filled with the biggest style risk-takers out there, and then add the biggest design talents and their muses to the equation. The night is all about celebrating inspiring, boundary-pushing fashion – and attendees don't take the responsibility lightly.
This year's event was no different, with much speculation as to whom would receive the coveted Fashion Icon award – an honour that the organization traditionally announces in advance. This year, Queen Bey took home the award after making a surprise appearance midway through the proceedings.
Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs took home the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year, Thom Browne won Menswear Designer of the Year, and the Accessory Designer of the Year went to Mansur Gavriel's Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for its beloved bucket bags. Other winners included: Gucci's Alessandro Michele, Norma Kamali, Donna Karan, and Brandon Maxwell.
And although the night awarded fashion's most talented designers for their work, another group stole the show with their standout red carpet looks – the L'Oreal Paris muses!
L'OREAL MUSES AT THE 2016 CFDA AWARDS
Known for her soft, feminine style, Karlie Kloss hit the CFDA red carpet wearing a white Rosie Assoulin gown that featured cut-outs, bows, embellishments, and even small wings at the back giving her a look that seemed inspired by Tinker Bell. The L'Oreal muse wore her hair in a top-knot with minimal makeup and Atelier Swarovski jewelry that gave her the ultimate fairy-tale look.
Blonde bombshell Doutzen Kroes stepped out onto the red carpet wearing a black Calvin Klein jumpsuit with a front zipper that gave her look a sporty appeal. She amped up the sex appeal with an electric red lip, sleek, wet hair, and bold dangling earrings.
Brazilian beauty Alessandra Ambrosio stunned in a sparkling purple Michael Kors gown with a sultry side slit that showed off her enviable legs and Christian Louboutin shoes. She kept her makeup nude and simple, and her resting sleek and straight on her shoulders.
Russian muse Irina Shayk stood out in an electric red Misha Nonoo jumpsuit with a plunging neckline that revealed just the right amount of skin. Keeping with the top-knot trend of the evening, Irina tied her hair back into a messy bun that showed off her unique straps and ties. As per usual, she kept makeup to a minimum and simply coated her lashes with a small amount of mascara for a more natural, no-makeup, makeup look.
