dark eyes: how to enhance

Dark Eyes: How to enhance them

by Paige Exell -

If you have brown or grey eyes and find that they're slightly dull and dark, be assured that they do in fact spark mystery and curiosity everywhere you go. Dark eyes are also easier to make up, because almost any eye shadow colour looks great – whether it's smoky brown or black or a vibrant orange. Unfortunately, many with brown or dark eyes find that their eyes don't pop as easily as bright blue or green eyes. That's why we're here to show you how to enhance your gorgeous dark eyes with a few easy makeup tips and tricks!

4 MAKEUP TRICKS TO ENHANCE DARK EYES

Add shimmer

To brighten up your eyes and make them appear more open – and you more wide awake – look to shimmery gold or metallic shadows. Metallic shadow is the perfect shade, especially near the holidays. It's also remained a major eye makeup trend throughout 2016. Apply a shimmery shade of shadow onto your upper lids and around the eye on the lower lash line, then add a dot of iridescent white shadow onto your inner corners. For a more subtle look, use the shadow as a liner and apply it only on your upper lids as close as possible to your lash line.

Opt for super dark black mascara

When shopping around for the perfect mascara, believe it or not, there are different shades that will help to enhance different eye colours. For those with dark eyes, opt for an equally dark shade of super black mascara. This will intensify your gaze and add a sultry, mysterious vibe to your overall look – not to mention, it's super glam!

Cat eyes

Another way to enhance dark eyes is to perfect your cat eye application. Use a black liquid eyeliner and draw a line along your upper lash line from your inner corners to the outer corners of your eyes. When you reach your outer corners, extend the liner past the corners in an upwards motion, creating a flick motion with your hands. Not only will this make your lashes more voluminous, but the dark colour will enhance your eyes, while the feline flick will make them stand out amongst the rest.

Smoky eyes

If there's one look those with dark eyes suit best, it's a classic smoky eye. Celebs like Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Shay Mitchell and Nina Dobrev have been known to complement their dark eyes with a black or brown smoky look that consists of shadow applied onto the lids, outer corners and lower lash lines of the eyes for a sultry and glam look. Finish your smoky eye off with a black mascara for the ultimate brown-eyed look!
