If you haven't already picked up your favourite dark lipstick for autumn, put it on your beauty to-do list, ASAP. Not only is dark lipstick a sultry way to glam up your cold weather evening look, but it's an easy way to appear put together when you're running late for work. From shades of plum, red and even black, dark lipstick is this season's must-have beauty item.
And while we love the intensity of a dark lip, sometimes if done incorrectly, it can seem a little bit too overpowering. That's why Get The Look is offering you 5 different ways to rock dark lipstick – whether you're a cat eye enthusiast or believe in the phrase 'less is more' – inspired by some of our favourite L'Oreal Paris muses.
DARK LIPSTICK: 5 WAYS TO WEAR IT, INSPIRED BY L'OREAL MUSES
If you're planning on rocking a red lip for a night out on the town, be prepared to go full-on glam and pair it with a matte complexion. For her appearance at L'Oreal's first store opening in Paris, Barbara Palvin wore a plum matte lip with an equally matte complexion for a sultry and mysterious look. To do this, unify your skin with a matte formula foundation, then apply a loose translucent powder with a brush to set the foundation, giving you that flawless matte coverage.
SKIP THE EYE MAKEUP
If you aren't a fan of smoky shadows and dark liners, skip the eye makeup all together and keep the focus on your lips. A dark, glossy formula lipstick will give you that feminine, yet sultry look like Irina Shayk . To create a hint of balance, coat your upper and lower lashes with a hint of mascara, and don't forget to fill in your brows to shape the face!
DOUBLE UP ON THE GLAM WITH A FELINE FLICK
If you're a blonde like Doutzen Kroes , chances are, you have blonde lashes. This means skipping eye makeup in favour of a dark lip colour just isn't always an option. But that's okay! A cool cat eye and dramatic red lip make for one glamorous combo that will make your bright eyes pop! Before creating your feline flick, use a golden shadow as a base on your lids. If you have blue or green eyes, this will make the colour stand out even more. Then, after you've perfected your winged liner, use mascara to enhance your lashes, blush to give you a natural flush, and red lips to finish off the look!
A DEWY COMPLEXION
The most recent L'Oreal muse to show off a red lip? Karlie Kloss , who paired a classic shade of cherry red with orange shadow and a luminous complexion. This look is perfect for the office – it isn't too heavy, and still looks put together. To create a luminous complexion like Karlie's, apply a liquid illuminator onto your cheekbones, forehead, chin and bridge of nose and finish off with a matte red lip!
A SMOKY EYE
If you're a fan of the timeless black smoky eye, take notes from Freida Pinto who paired her contoured, two-toned red lip with a grey shadow and hint of liner. To get this look, coat your lids with a grey shadow, extending the colour upwards along the crease. Next, using a black liner pencil, tightline the areas between your lashes on your upper lids then shade in the area beneath your lower lashes. Using an angled brush, smudge the liner for a smoky effect. Finish off with mascara.
As for the lipstick, use two different shades of the same dark colour on your lips. Apply the dark colour first, then place the lighter colour in the centre of your lips to make them appear more plump.
