One stripe nail art

Easy one-stripe nail art tutorial: monochrome how-to

by Kathy Saunders -

If you're up on your nail polish trends, you'll know that white polish is everywhere right now. Whether a pure white or a shade with delicate pastel tones, it's ideal for creating an eye-catching manicure this spring. What's more, it's the perfect ingredient for achieving some simple yet powerful graphic nail art!

One great way to wear white polish is as a bold base color. Then, with a contrasting polish, you can add some interesting detail to your nails. Black stripes, painted in any direction you like, are one of the easiest ways to do this. In just a matter of minutes, you can create a manicure that is both chic and right on-trend for the coming spring-summer season!

Get the look

The really beautiful thing about this look is that you don't need any special skills or complicated tools to do it. Before you start, arm yourself with a white polish, black polish, top & base coats, and a small brush (an old paint brush or makeup brush you don't use anymore will do).

Step one: Start things off on the right foot, or hand, with a nourishing base coat. This will help to protect your nails from any stains, drying out and any other kinds of damage.

Step two: Apply two coats of white polish and allow them to dry completely. If you're in a rush, blast them with a hairdryer on a cold air setting.

Step three: Dab some black polish onto a bit of old paper or a makeup remover pad (a bit like a mini paint palette). Dip your brush into the polish and then paint a solitary line along each nail. Like the model in the photo, you can always leave one nail bare.

Step four: Once the black polish is dry, complete your manicure with a glossy top coat. This will provide a high-shine finish while helping to protect your nails from chips and scratches. And you're done!

Told you it was easy...
