When Sarah Carter hit the red carpet of the 33rd Vancouver International Film Festival on September 25, we almost didn't recognize her! You see, we're used to seeing the actress (best known for her roles on Smallville and Falling Skies) on television wearing natural makeup and low-key, loose waves. But last night, Sarah paired her playful smile with bright red lips and bouncy curls that would have given Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money!
We loved Sarah's red carpet curls so much that we made it our pick of the week, and we're taking it even further by offering a hairstyle tutorial so that you can recreate the look at home! Here's how...
Starting with damp hair, apply curl-creating mousse throughout and then make sure the product is evenly distributed by combing through from root to end.
If you can, let your hair air dry. If not, spray your hair with a heat protectant and blow dry it out as smoothly as possible, using the concentrator attachment to reduce frizz.
With heat rollers: If you have heat rollers, begin to curl your hair according the styling tool's instructions. Normally it's easiest to start from the top center, curling away from the face, and then moving down.
Without heat rollers: If you don't have heat rollers, simply use a 1" curling iron to create the look. Starting at the top center of the head, begin curling small sections of hair. When you've removed the hair from the iron, use your hand to reshape the curl and then clip it in place. Repeat the process all over.
When the hair has cooled, loosen the curls. Gently run a small amount of smoothing serum throughout the hair, breaking up the curls ever so slightly. Create a center part and fix the style in place with hairspray. All done!
