From the nymph-inspired fairytale looks at the Atelier Versace show to the bobbed and red-lipped, doll-like looks on the Chanel runway, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is really pulling out all of the stops when it comes to creative makeup looks!
Yesterday (July 8) saw yet another gorgeous display of haute couture style in the "Shades of Gold" Fall/ Winter Elie Saab collection, displaying elaborately embellished princess dresses and semi-sheer glittering gowns matched with gold wreath-like headbands and smouldering eye makeup: a real fashion feast for the eyes!
If, like us, you are looking to capture some of that runway magic for yourself, why not try recreate the Elie Saab gold smoky eye for a luxuriously haute couture evening or party look! Here's how it's done...
A gold-standard look
Start by creating a natural glow for your skin tone while allowing your complexion to shine through. Use an illuminating primer as a base and top it with a BB cream rather than a foundation for a lighter coverage, before dusting your face gently with a matte powder. Add a touch of rosy blush to your cheeks for a romantic warm hue to your princess look!
Rather than using a brow pencil, opt instead for a gel-based brow plumper to comb, shape and define your brows into place without any unnatural heaviness.
Now for the eyes: start by following the upper lashline with liquid eyeliner, thickening the stroke smoothly towards the outer lashes. Then swap the liquid for a pencil liner in a dark kohl-brown shade and create the heavy, smudged definition for the lower lashline, before blending slightly with a bronze eyeshadow for a warm shimmer.
Next, go for gold: apply a glittering, gold eyeshadow over the upper lid starting around the tearduct, blending with the eyeliner, and finishing with a slight pointed flick about a centimeter above the lashline.
Finish the look with a light pink lipstain to complement the eyeshadow shimmer and give the lashes two coats of thickening mascara, waiting after the first coat to allow for the mascara to set properly.
Now you have the look down, are you ready to rule the runway?
