As young pre-teens attempting to apply makeup, some of us often confused smearing iridescent white powder shadow over our eyelids for a trendy makeup technique (tip: It's really supposed to go on your inner corners!)
But now, one of winter's top eyeshadow trends consists of just that: Icy eye makeup – in a much more stylish way, of course! This style emulates Queen Elsa and her beauty by layering blue, gray, and yes, white pigments on your eyelid. It can be intimidating to try a look that could appear dated so easily, but thankfully, you're not on your own!
To make sure this look turns out sophisticated, clean, and festive, Get The Look is offering you a step by step tutorial. Whether you're looking for a bright and bold or soft and shimmery style, read on to find out how to achieve frosty shadow!
EYE MAKEUP TUTORIAL: ICY BLUE SMOKY EYE
Start off by prepping your base with a matte, liquid foundation. L'Oreal's Infallible Pro-Matte liquid foundation will do the trick!
To frame your face, use a spoolie to brush your eyebrows up and outwards to create shape. Then, fill them in with a brow gel or pencil to create a fuller look that will complement your frosty eye makeup.
Prep your lids for makeup by applying an eye primer onto the base of your lids. Use your fingers or a sponge to smudge the primer throughout the lid. This will ensure that your eye makeup is more vibrant, and appears on your eyes as the colour you see in the box!
Use a white or cream coloured shadow and apply it as your base colour on your lids. Apply it just beneath your brows using a fluffy brush to highlight your brow bone. Continue to highlight and add depth to the eyes by applying a medium brown shadow into your crease using a fluffy brush. Extend any excess colour outwards. This will add a smoky look to the eye.
Use an icy blue liner or cream shadow, and apply a thin layer on your upper lids close to your lash line and up towards your crease. Apply it in your inner corners, as well.
Use a fluffy brush to apply a shimmery silver shadow over top of the blue shadow. This will give your blue shadow an icier look. Use the silver shadow to highlight the inner corners of your eyes.
Next, darken up the look by applying a black eye shadow onto your crease using a fluffy brush. Blend it into the rest of the look by brushing any excess shadow into the blue and silver shadows to connect the colours and create a more seamless, natural look.
Apply a black liner underneath your waterline to create depth and a darker, smoky look. Continue by applying the shimmery silver shadow onto your lower lash line, layered over the black liner using a small angled shadow brush.
Apply a volumizing mascara onto your upper lashes to add balance to your eye makeup look and create a glam, smoky finish!
