Fall Hair Trends: exclusive interview with Eric Del Monaco, official stylist and colorist for L'Oréal Paris

by Sarah-Jeanne Lapointe -

Eric Del Monaco knows everything there is to know about hair. From styling to coloring, he left his mark as a professional hairstylist in Spain, and became one of the best hair references in Canada. In 2006, he joined L'Oréal Paris Canada's Expert Team as their Official Hair Artist and Colorist.

Our beauty journalist had the chance to meet him (and get her hair done by one of the best hairdressers in the world!). Between bursts of laughter and some interesting anecdotes, she asked him about hair trends for Fall 2013. Here's what he had to say:

GTL: Mr. Del Monaco, what hair colors are in fashion this Fall?

ERIC: There's a lot of blond: mostly cold-tinted colors or ash. The ombre dye is still very popular at the moment, but if you're thinking about trying the dip-dye trend this Fall I suggest you go for a smoother look.

GTL: Can you tell us more about the on-trend haircuts to look out for this Fall?

ERIC: One thing is certain, we're losing some length this fall. Short hair is making a comeback, and the bob - in all its shapes (long, short, wavy) - is very on-trend. We're seeing some asymmetry, but the full-length haircut is very popular this season.

GTL: What hairstyles should we go for on night outs and special occasions?

Eric: The ponytail reinvents itself for a very sophisticated look. Retro hairstyles like the Hollywood curls are back in trend. Because I'm a stylist, I try to predict what hairstyles will be in fashion. I would love to see some alternative looks, but classic hairstyles always tend to take over the red carpet, because they'll never go out of fashion.

GTL: What about men's hairstyles? What are the trends?

ERIC: It's a comeback for the "mad fifties" this Fall. The sides are kept short and the long fringe is swept backwards or sideways for a dandy or hipster look.

In addition to being part of L'Oréal Paris' Expert Team, Eric Del Monaco is also the Lead Hair Artist for L'Oréal Fashion Week in Toronto.

Get The Look also wants to add that he is as lovely as he is talented!
