Fall Outfit Inspiration: Karlie Kloss' turtleneck and trench coat duo

Autumn's cool temperatures call for a resurgence of the cozy knit sweaters, coats and booties that we've left lying around all summer. The only question is; how can we combine our favourite fall items into one cool outfit? Luckily for us, L'Oreal ambassador Karlie Kloss , has the answer.

Yesterday afternoon, the supermodel was spotted out in New York City wearing a black turtle neck layered underneath a powder blue trench coat that gave us the simple, yet elegant fall fashion inspo we're looking for. A few weeks back, Karlie was spotted wearing a neutral-coloured Burberry trench coat with sneakers, inspiring us to find cool and unique ways to rock our fall coats this season.

So without further ado, we're giving you three different ways to wear your fall coat this season, inspired by Karlie Kloss.

Karlie Kloss was spotted wearing a fall coat over a black turtleneck on not one, but two different occasions, proving that this chic yet simple look is a must-try for fall 2016. Yesterday afternoon in New York City, she was spotted wearing a powder blue coat tied up at the waist and layered overtop a black turtleneck. As for her bottoms, she wore sheer black tights with a trendy pair of black ballet flats for a super chic and elegant, yet laidback look. She topped it off with a cool pair of black sunnies that were slightly covered by her blonde locks.

Turtlenecks are a great way to stay warm in cool fall temperatures, but can often appear plain or as if something is missing if worn incorrectly. Avoid this by layering your black turtleneck with black pants, trousers or tights, and a coloured coat of your choice to create a stark contrast.

To achieve a more laidback approach to fall fashion, take note of the way Karlie wore her Burberry trench coat a few weeks back. The L'Oreal muse buttoned and belted her neutral-coloured coat on top of a simple black turtle neck, then paired it with cropped jeans and a pair of white sneakers. To complete this look, throw your hair up into an I-don't-care hairstyle (like a tousled ponytail or slick back bun), and voila! Look complete!

When it comes to getting dressed for the office, denim and sneakers may be a bit too casual. That's where option B comes in. Rather than pairing your neutral trench coat with the most casual items in your closet, wear it with a plain, solid coloured t-shirt belted and tucked into a pair of wide-leg, high-waist trousers. Layer your coat unbuttoned overtop, then throw on a cool pair of sneakers and your favourite shades!
