Fashion: how to work the pastel trend this winter

by Hannah Ikin -

We don't know about you but, around this time every year, as the days get shorter and the temperature drops, we find ourselves reverting to dark and somber colors like grey, black and brown. It's not the most fun style to be wearing so, in the absence of the sun, we've decided to brighten up our wardrobe by working the pastel trend. Why not follow our lead with the guidelines below? It's the ultimate fun and feel good way to get dressed in the morning!

Pretty in pastel!

Duck egg green, powder blue, baby pink... all of these colors can be used to put a spring in your step this winter.

If you're feeling daring, why not try statement look like the pastel pink coat in the photo or make like Naomi Watts and wear a pretty peach dress? You could show off your color blocking skills by mixing darker and lighter shades together (we love royal blue with a lighter sky blue). Alternatively, team a delicate pastel top with dark jeans, or, for a more subtle look, add a touch of flowery fun to your getup with the addition of a pastel scarf.

Makeup to match

If, like us, you've mostly been wearing dark makeup looks like oxblood lipstick and black manicures this fall, then why not mix things up a bit with a light and bright beauty look? A pastel lemon manicure à la Lea Michele shouldn't fail to pep up your mood - and maybe even that of your loved ones! For a fresh-faced look, steal Karlie Kloss 's peach blush look or open up your eyes with a baby blue liner.

So, there you have it - some sound fall fashion advice. Will you be thinking twice the next time you reach for that trusty black sweater of yours?
