To sum it up, for Spring 2017, accessory trends are changing. While we've seen a lot of the same pieces trend over the past year (see: chokers and mini bags), this season, designers are starting to push the limits a little farther – like they did for spring's over-the-top beauty trends. As a result, the jewellery, shoes, and bags coming down the runway are bigger, bolder, crazier and weirder. But in our minds, the bolder, the better!
Whether it's embellished crocs (yes, crocs), vibrant-coloured snakeskin shoes or giant purses worn as wristlets, the items below are the best accessories we've seen come out of Fashion Month. Read on to find out which accessories will be taking over our wardrobes come spring.
FASHION MONTH: THE BEST ACCESSORY TRENDS FROM THE RUNWAY
For Spring 2017, bags of all shapes and sizes are being worn as wristlets, as models took to the runway with the purses chain handles wrapped around their wrists. At Coach, models sported colorful, fringed purses with chain handles wrapped (and locked) around their wrists. For a cool, street-inspired accessory, try this new and improved cool-girl bag trend. But beware: It may be difficult to adopt if your bag is too heavy!
Think boring striped bags couldn't feel new? Ports 1961 had models take the runway carrying blue and white striped bucket bags that were tied together with a white rope at the top of the bag. So, how you can update this look for spring? Pair it with these season's matching striped button-down trend for one matching look!
While most of spring's beauty and accessory trends have gotten bigger and bolder, Valentino kept things mini with teeny-weeny bags wrapped across models shoulders. Think of this tiny option as more of an ornament, complement to your outfit or home for your business cards or favourite lipstick.
Tights and Sandals
First, it was socks and sandals (which was also all over the runways this season). Now, the taboo sheer sock, or sheer tight, with open-toed shoes has been marked as a spring must-have by designers at labels like Celine. Pair your sheer tights and open-toed shoes with a cool, breezy dress come spring.
While flatforms have been on-trend for a few seasons now, brands were not shy when it came to re-designing them for spring 2017. Whether by way of crazy prints, embellishments, or all of the above, shoes – and flatforms in particular – got very kooky. Especially at Gucci, where models took the runway in sky-high flatforms that came adorned with prints, embellishments and straps.
At Salvatore Ferragamo, it wasn't just all about the shoe. This trend is more about styling the shoe to match the rest of your outfit than anything else. Countless runways showed shoes, pants, and even socks all corresponding in one singular hue, encouraging showgoers to not stray away from all-monochromatic everything.
Fall 2016 is all about the sock boot. Now, the sock plus boot trend continues on for spring 2017, whether separate or fused together. At Fendi, models showed off socks that were fused into boots and finished off with a heel and laces to give them that outerwear-appropriate look. We love that this shoe trend is both comfortable and stylish!
Long Pendant Necklaces
Say goodbye to chokers for spring 2017, because long, loose pendant necklaces are in! At least according to Christopher Kane, who accessorized models looks with long earrings and long chains that came with a single pendant at the end.
Long, Single Earrings
For Spring 2017, earrings are becoming the new statement bag, growing longer than our haircuts. At Mary Katrantzou's Spring/Summer 2017 show in London, models wore long, single earrings on just one of their ears. Who needs two when one is statement enough?
The accessory you used to think was lame just got cool again. At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld had models wearing Chanel-imprinted lanyards around their necks that made the perfect match for their '90s-inspired beauty looks. Whether you're holding a lighter, binoculars, or your ID, your most important essentials will never get lost again!
