Last July, media broke the unfortunate news that Toronto Fashion Week had lost its funding, ending the Canadian event indefinitely. In response, the fashion community in Toronto found an alternative that would allow designers to show off their new collections on the runway. Yorkdale Shopping Centre, in partnership with The Canadian Arts an Fashion Awards (CAFA), presents FashionCAN, which took place on October 16th and 17th, where some of the country's most notable designers showcased their Spring/Summer 2017 ready-to-wear and ready-to-buy collections.
Fashion houses like Mackage, Narces, UNTTLD and Paul Hardy presented their creations, getting us excited for what's to come this spring. And of course, we oooed and awed over models makeup looks as well, which unsurprisingly for the season, placed significant focus on models lips.
Here at Get The Look, we noticed three variations of the classic red lip trend that we can't wait to try! Need a little makeup inspo? Read on to see the three lipstick trends that took over FashionCAN!
FASHIONCAN: 3 RED LIPSTICK TRENDS SPOTTED IN TORONTO
Okay, so it may not be a true variation of red, but judging by the FashionCAN runways, black lipstick isn't just a shade that's reserved for Halloween festivities anymore. Over the past few months, black lipstick has proven to be much more versatile than we could have ever imagined, spotted not only on runways, but on celebs in their everyday lives. Mysterious and dramatic, black lipstick is an edgy beauty pick that seduces the most daring of us.
This season, try contrasting your dark lips with a matte complexion and thin layer of black mascara that doesn't do black makeup overkill on your face. As for the formula, go with a lipstick that you feel most comfortable with! Whether it's glossy black like the one worn by supermodel Sophie Touchet during the Mackage show, or a dramatic, matte finish lipstick, this is one beauty trend that will make a statement!
Canadian designers who presented their spring/summer 2017 collections in Toronto have put forth a bright and classic trend that we can't wait to wear again come spring: bright red lips! At Lucian Matis, models came down the runway with lighter, coral red lips, while models at Narces showcased an orange-y shade. Matte shades of this colour are particularly successful when it comes to making your lips pop!
Like black lipstick, a dark burgundy or maroon mouth is another makeup must-have to adopt this season. Models at jewellery designer Daniel Christian Tang's runway show wore this look with a slightly dewy complexion and a single layer of black mascara. To re-create a perfectly dark, shaded mouth, arm yourself with a lipstick palette like L'Oreal's Colour Riche Ruby Palette. Start by applying the deep burgundy shade on the entire surface of your lips. Next, on the centre of your lips, place a dot of a lighter lipstick shade and blur them together with a brush.
