Finger waves for short hair, Paris Fashion Week tutorial

by Hannah Ikin -

Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014-2015 is underway, and we have spotted our favorite hairstyle from the runway so far. We fell in love with this 1920s finger waves updo the moment we sawit! If you've got short hair, it's a great way to rock the retro hair trend that's everywhere right now.

Retro rules

Retro hair is big news at the moment and fingers waves are a great way to go about wearing the trend. The style was made popular in the 1920s and the 1930s and has been enjoying a revival of late (one which was no doubt helped by the lovely Carey Mulligan's take on the 'do in The Great Gatsby last year). The style is guaranteed to give you a spot of vintage glamour!

Step one

Starting with damp hair, use a tail comb to give yourself a side part (you can't get this retro style without one). Grab some strong hold gel, and apply a small amount from root to tip with a comb. Now you're ready to get those 1920s finger waves!

Step two

Separate your hair into sections. Starting on the left side of the part, comb your hair flat and forward towards your eyebrow, stopping about an inch down. Hold your finger under the comb.

Step three

Keep the finger in place and push it up slightly to emphasize the groove and comb the hair back in the other direction. Remove your finger and slide in a hair clip to keep it in place. You'll see that you are starting to create the zig zig that forms the finger waves.

Step four

Repeat steps two and three, working section by section until you have a full head of waves around the scalp.

Step five

Blowdry your hair on a low heat and remove all of the hair clips. Spritz some hairspray over you 'do to keep it in place.

So there you have it, one vintage hairstyle for short hair!
