For its 70th year running, the Venice International Film Festival opened with great flair and style, featuring a whole host of celebrities on the red carpet in Italy's most romantic destination.
Follow that water-taxi!
When arriving for the glamorous festival, there is no grander entrance than stepping off a water taxi straight onto the lush red carpet of Sala Grande, and the celebrities more than equalled their theatrical arrival with a range of stunning outfits.
Opening with style
Opening this year's festival today, August 29th, was the new outer-space thriller "Gravity" starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney , both looking particularly glamour. Sandra pulled out all the stops in to dazzle in a scarlet-red, faux-wrap strapless dress, adjusted at the waist, falling open at the front revealing her chunky black-strapped stilettos. We loved her shoes - they were bold and brilliant!
Nobody does it better
But with a co-star the likes of George Clooney on your arm, you need to be bold to get noticed! The debonair gent of Hollywood was as handsome as ever in a classic black tuxedo, crisp white shirt and bow-tie, his silver-fox hair swept in a sleek side parting à la Cary Grant.
Classic glamour and eccentric ensembles
Other stand-out ensembles were model-turned-actress Sophie Kennedy Clark's light pink full-length, long-sleeved frock, Eva Riccobono's white lacy dress with a plunging neck line, and who could miss Italian writer Marina Ripa di Meana's eccentric ensemble accessorising a black dress with a red feather boa and a birdcage over her head?
With actors coming from all over the world, we never know what crazy styles will show up next! The festival continues until September 7th, and we will be keeping our eyes peeled for the most stylish or most bizarre red carpet outfits!
