Girls' Allison Williams goes retro for Vogue

Allison Williams is one of our favorite Girls. The HBO star was spotted at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards on November 11 wearing this retro outfit that made us do a double take!

While Williams' might star on a show all about a group of young women living life in New York City, her retro outfit reminded us of another show taking place in the big apple: Mad Men! The young actress looks like she's been taking cues from Betty Draper, with her high-waisted, a-line skirt and classic red lip. This look is a chic and elegant way to give a nod to 50's style without going overboard, and certain details of Williams look manage to bring her red carpet style up to date.

Going old school

Allison's ensemble is actually two seperate pieces, but together they resemble the 1950's shirtdress, a very popular clothing item of the time. The shirt dress featured a top that looked like a shirt, with a collar and buttons. At the natural waist, or what we now think of as "high waist," the skirt portion of the dress flared out into a full, circle skirt. On her feet, the actress stuck with jewel-embellished pumps, another item that would fit perfectly into a wardrobe from another time. Allison kept her beauty look simple and classic, with natural foundation and bold red lips. She slicked her hair back into a simple ponytail .

Bringing it up-to-date

Two things brought Allison's look up to date. The first thing is that she chose black and white. Yes, these colors are absolute classic and were regularly worn in the 50's, but right now they're especially on trend. The other thing were the sheer stripes on her skirt, which manage to show quite a bit of leg! Sheer fabrics are also in style right now and they help keep the ensemble current.

We think it's safe to say Allison looks sheerly sensational!
