HOLIDAY HAIR INSPIRATION: FESTIVE ACCESSORIES
Over the past few seasons, glitter roots have become a major over-the-top beauty trend that only the most daring beauties will try. If you're usually a little too shy to venture out and explore daring beauty trends, the holiday season is the perfect excuse to go for it! What are glitter roots, you ask? The trend happens when you style your hair – usually in a braid or double top knots on each side of your head – then apply glitter hair gel (in a colour of your choice) on your part to cover your scalp.
Nina Dobrev was recently spotted rocking the trend at the 2016 AMAs, but rather than placing the glitter on her roots, she sported two, inverted braids on one side of her head and decorated the protruding parts of the braid with glitter. The best part about this look is that you can play around with it, and make it work with the hairstyle that best suits you!
Like the idea of holiday glitter, but want to try something a little bit more subdued? Take notes from Lucy Hale, and try placing small pieces of confetti in a shape of your choice throughout your hair. Whether it's gold stars, hearts, or basic shapes, this hair accessory will amp up your look for the holiday season, while maintaining a simple and minimalist style.
To get this look, place your hair in a half ponytail, bun, twist, or just simply pin it to the back of your head, then place the confetti throughout your hair. Secure the accessories with extra-strong hold hairspray and voila!
For a more elegant approach to hair accessories, look to Rita Ora's small pearl beads that she integrated into two French braids. Not only is this look elegant and sophisticated, but it can be incorporated into an edgier hair style – like Rita's – for a more modern approach. Beads or pearls also great when integrated into a chignon or a bun. To keep them in place, make sure to secure them with bobby pins and hairspray!
