Whether you are one of the many who went platinum blonde recently, or you're a lifelong blonde, it's especially hard to keep your fair hair colour looking healthy and great during the colder months. While we know that the dry months ahead require a lot more moisture on our skin to prevent it from flaking off, the same goes for our hair – especially blondes, who already struggle with dry hair.
Another issue blondes face come fall? Keeping those locks shiny and bright. During the summer, the sun tends to keep blonde hair bright, creating natural highlights – even on some brunettes! But during the fall and winter months, blonde hair can often go back to beige or sandy tones. So, to help you blondes keep your hair healthy and bright come fall, Get The Look is giving you 6 major tips to try out!
BLONDE HAIR: HOW TO KEEP IT HEALTHY DURING THE COLDER MONTHS
To help you maintain colour and shine during the winter, get yourself an intense treatment mask like L'Oreal's sulfate-free Evercreme Deep Nourishing Masque, that penetrates each strand with natural Omega-3 and 6 to infuse moisture without weighing your locks down. Apply the mask once per week, and leave it in overnight for the best results.
Since dying your hair over and over again to keep it bright can do some serious damage (especially when the weather is already dry!), opt for a tinted purple shampoo, instead. Purple shampoos will keep your hair colour from turning brassy, which can happen with other shampoos that aren't specifically formulated for blonde hair. While in the shower, wet your hair then shampoo has you normally would, leaving the formula in your hair for about 5-7 minutes. This will allow the hair to brighten and prevent it from going brassy without a trip to the salon!
AVOID PLATINUM BLONDE
It may sound crazy, but during the fall and winter months, it's best to avoid going platinum blonde and opt for beige or sandy tones, instead. In the summer, blonde hair brightens with the sun, so when the sun begins to fade in the colder months, blonde hair does as well. Avoid damaging your platinum blonde hair with frequent trips to the salon and go for a low-maintenance nude hair colour that will stay healthy all year long!
FIND A DRY SHAMPOO
Consistent washing isn't good for anybody's hair, but when you're dealing with dry blonde locks in the winter, frequent shampooing can do added damage to your hair. Avoid washing your hair everyday by finding a dry shampoo that works for you and your hair colour. Refreshing your hair without shampooing will also help keep the colour vibrant for longer.
AVOID HOT TOOLS
While we all love a voluminous head full of bouncy curls, it's best to avoid hot tools and take extra precaution with heat styling in the winter. Because blonde hair is more dried out to begin with, heat styling can take a real toll if you don't use a protective spray or lay off the blow dryer every now and again.
USE SHINE SPRAY AND HAIR OIL
Use hair oil for fine hair (which is also great for light hair), applying it from the mid-lengths to the ends after you've towel dried it. This will help keep your strands moisturized during dry winter months. To keep the colour looking vibrant, spray your hair with a shine spray after you've styled it.
