At Fall 2016 Fashion Week, antique accessories reigned as one of the season's must-try hair trends. From brooches to tiaras, models' heads were adorned with all sorts of goodies you would expect to find in your grandma's jewellery closet. And while the actual hair was kept simple and natural, we saw intricate floral headpieces at Rodarte followed by crystal-embellished ribbon headbands and Dolce & Gabbana.
Now, celebrities are trying new ways of bringing the runway to the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, with Amy Adams and Kate Hudson trying out their own versions of the antique accessory trend with simple black ribbons tied into their hair 'do.
And while we adore both simple styles, we're inviting you to vote for the look you prefer! (And maybe try out a hair accessory of your own this season!)
IT-ACCESSORY OF TIFF 2016: THE BLACK RIBBON
AMY ADAMS: LOW PONYTAIL
On September 12th, Amy Adams attended the premiere of Arrivals in a red gown that complimented her fiery red locks. She paired her body-con dress with a straight low ponytail that sat sleek and silky on the back of her neck. Our favourite part about this hair style? Amy added an extra touch by tying a black ribbon around the base of her ponytail, moving downwards towards the end of her strands for a modern and sophisticated look that was directly inspired by Fall 2016's Fashion Week.
Ready to give this runway-approved look a go? Start off by spraying a generous amount of shine finish hairspray onto a comb or a brush, and brushing your hair back at the roots into a low ponytail that sits on your back. Before you begin, make sure your hair is sleek and straight. If not, use a flat iron to create this look!
Once your ponytail is secured with an elastic at the back of your head, wrap a long black ribbon around the base of your ponytail, moving it slightly lower down towards the end of the ponytail until you reach your desire length. Finish off with a shine finish hairspray and you're red carpet ready!
KATE HUDSON: THE FRENCH BRAID
Like Amy Adams, Kate Hudson opted to pair her black ribbon with a simple easy-to-achieve hairstyle. The actress made a notable appearance at the red carpet premiere of Deepwater Horizon last night wearing a sheer black dress with small embellishments and a pearl choker. Her outfit was completed with a French braid that sat low on her head, and was accessorized with a tiny black ribbon at the tip of the hair.
To get this hairstyle, pull your hair to the back of your head, and start French braiding at the lower back portion of your head, integrating strands into the braid as you go. Secure your braid with an elastic, then tie a black ribbon around the elastic to hide it, creating a small bow. Finish off with a shine finish hairspray for a more glamorous look!
