In the midst of over-the-top street style looks and celebrity sightings, was Maria Grazia Chiuri's first Dior show where models took the runway in whimsical, head-to-toe white looks that were both sporty and romantic. For today's occasion, hairstylist Guido Palau took inspiration from the street punk, skater girl to give models a tomboyish hairstyle that was still feminine and pulled together in its simplicity.
For the 'do, Palau embellished the humble topknot by adding four inverted braids at the base of each girl's head that shimmied their way up to the top of the heads to meet a classic knot. With clean skin and delicate lips, this look is a perfect and simple way to combine romance and sport into your look. Better yet, you don't have to wait until spring 2017 to try it! Thanks to Get The Look, you'll have this hairstyle perfected before the season arrives! Read on to find out how to adopt Dior's braided knots, step by step.
HAIR TUTORIAL: DIOR'S BRAIDED TOP KNOTS
The best part about this look is that it can be adopted with dry or wet hair, depending on your situation as you run out the door. If you're performing this style on dry hair, run a putty or oil through your hair with your fingers before you begin to add grip.
Step 1: After you've decided between a dry or 'wet' hairstyle, begin by brushing out your hair to remove any knots that might make performing this style more difficult. Next, split your hair into two halves – one section on top of your head, and one section at the bottom half of your head – and secure the top section of hair on top of your head with an elastic so that it doesn't get in the way of your braids.
Step 2: Next, take the loose bottom section of hair and divide it into four smaller sections. Use small elastics to help keep other sections of hair out of the way as you braid.
Step 3: Before you begin braiding, consider your skill level. If you haven't had much practice with French braiding, you may want to have a friend help you out. If you feel confident that you can create a runway-worthy braid, go for it! Take one section of hair and begin your inverted French braiding, taking in sections of hair as you move up towards the top of your head.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 using the other three sections of hair until you reach the top section of hair that is secured with an elastic on top of your head. You should have a generous amount of unbraided hair left to work with.
Step 5: Remove the top section of hair from the elastic, and join it with the unbraided ends of the hair from the bottom section as if you were about to place it all together into a ponytail. Before securing with an elastic, fold the hair downwards to create a loop, then wrap the loose, remaining end of the ponytail around the base of the loop. Secure with an elastic and bobby pins.
Step 6: Finish off by spraying your work of art with a shine finish hairspray. To make sure you have no flyaways, spray a fine tooth comb with the formula and run it from the roots of your hair to the top knot. This will give you a clean, sleek look!
