Hairstyle Inspiration: 5 short and mid-length cuts to try out this summer

by Paige Exell -

It seems that lately, everywhere we turn there's a celeb with a new short, haircut. The rebellious, short-hair-don't-care movement started on the spring/summer 2016 runways, where models showed off unique, individualistic hairstyles in the form of bangs, bobs, and buzz cuts – depending on what suited them best.

Our fave celebrities began to follow suit, with Taylor Swift exchanging her signature golden bob for an edgy, platinum blonde shaggy cut, and supermodel Kendall Jenner chopping her long dark hair off into a chic shoulder-length cut. Meanwhile, Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid debuted bangs that made them even more striking than we thought possible.

And while it makes sense that long-haired beauties would want to chop it all off come summer to prevent sweating in the heat, you can't deny that short, edgy haircuts are having a major moment in the spotlight.

Feeling inspired? Get The Look has 5 short to mid-length hairstyle ideas that you can adopt this summer (if you're feeling rebellious!).

For those of you are looking to chop it all off – and by all, we mean all – the boyish buzz cut is one of the hottest hairstyle trends of the moment. It's sweat-free, fuss-free, and needs barely any attention, making it the perfect lazy-girl summer style.

Orange is the New Black actress Ruby Rose debuted a boyish buzz that she styled with a braid down the top-middle portion of her head. Who said short hair couldn't be feminine?

We're used to seeing supermodel Jourdan Dunn switch up her hairstyle almost as often as her clothes, going from long to short and vice versa in the blink of an eye. Our favourite look of hers? The asymmetrical bob that she sported at the 2016 Manus x Machina themed Met Gala.

The asymmetrical bob is a blunt cut that is defined by being longer on one side, shorter on the other, creating a chic and sophisticated look. It frames the face, accentuating your features – especially a strong jaw line. If you're looking for a chic, more mature hairstyle change this summer, the asymmetrical bob is your answer!

A few weeks ago, Taylor Swift shocked us all with a new 'do that made quite the departure from her signature ash-y blonde bob and classic red lip. The singer debuted a shaggy, platinum blonde cut that framed her face, adding some serious edge to her look.

If you're looking to change things up for something a little edgier, opt for a shaggy bob like Taylor's. The shaggy bob is uneven, messy, sometimes layered, and can be styled however you please for one rock star-approved style.

If you're still on the edge about changing up your hair for the season, opt for a subtle cut that sits somewhere around your shoulders. This allows you to get reap the benefits of a short summer 'do (goodbye, sweat), without sacrificing your signature style and length.

Need a little inspiration? Eva Longoria's shoulder-length, wavy lob (long-bob, get it?) adds a little more freshness and originality to the beach-y wave trend, not to mention it accentuates the face shape, and offers a fuss-free alternative to long, surfer-girl waves.

Her long, platinum blonde hair may attract some serious attention on Game of Thrones, but actress Emilia Clarke sports a much more realistic hairstyle when it comes to real life – one we can get inspired by!

Not feeling the shaggy fringe or asymmetrical bob? Opt for something a little more minimalist, like Emilia's squared-off, blunt bob that rests just above the shoulders. It's simple, easy to style, yet still sexy and glam – what more could a girl ask for?

Are you ready to take on the summer with a short, sexy new 'do?
