Hitting snooze and luxuriating in our sheets as we get a few more fleeting minutes of sleep brings us true joy. The only thing to make this ritual more satisfying is waking up having eliminated a step from our beauty routine. So, how do we eliminate one of the most annoying steps in our morning routine?
We prep our hair the night before so that it looks great when we wake up the next morning. Whether you prefer voluminous waves or sleek and straight hair, read on to find out how to achieve gorgeous hair while you sleep!
HAIR TIPS: HOW TO ACHIEVE GORGEOUS HAIR WHILE YOU SLEEP
To achieve voluminous waves without the heat damage to your hair, style lightly damp hair in a series of twists before you go to bed. To do this, part your hair down the middle, then choose one side of your head closest to your face and near your ears to begin your twists. Grab a strand of hair on the side of your head that you've chosen, then take an equal strand of hair next to it and wrap the two strands around one another in a twisted fashion, making sure to include all of the hair on the one side of your head into the twist. When you reach the end of your hair and run out of strands to twist, wrap the hair around itself creating a bun near the bottom of your head. Secure with an elastic, then repeat on the other side of your head.
Sleep on your hair, then when your remove the twists the next morning, you'll have voluminous heat-free waves! If you'd like more texture, apply a beach spray to your hair then scrunch it in using your fingers.
SLEEK AND STRAIGHT WITHOUT THE HEAT!
There's no need to submit your strands to harsh chemicals or excessive temperatures to achieve a sleek style. To achieve straight hair overnight, start off by prepping your hair and washing it with shampoo and conditioner. Next, smooth and detangle your strands using a comb and a detangling spray. Then, use a brush to brush your hair back as if you were going to put it into a ponytail. The whole point of this step is to straighten the roots, so make sure you brush them back as tight and sleek as possible! Secure into a ponytail with an elastic once your roots are perfectly tight.
Leave your hair in a ponytail for about one hour before bed to let the roots straighten out. After an hour, remove the ponytail and brush out your hair from root to tip. Next, take a strand of hair from the bottom of your head near your ears, and bring it up over your head to the other side of your head and secure with a bobby pin. Repeat on each side of your head, bringing your strands over to the opposite side, pulling the strands as tight as you can when you pull them over. Sleep on your hair as it is, then when you remove it from the bobby pins in the morning, you'll have perfectly straight hair – no flat iron needed!
OVERNIGHT DEEP CONDITION AND DETANGLING
If you're just looking to achieve healthier, more hydrated hair overnight, simply apply a deep conditioning mask or conditioner in your hair after shampooing it in the shower. When you come out of the shower, apply a towel onto your hair to dry up some of the water. Remove the towel, then braid your hair into two classic braids on each side of your head. Sleep on it, then wake up to gorgeous, wavy hair that is hydrated, defined and tangle-free!
