On May 29, Girls star Jemima Kirke attended the Joyful Heart Foundation's Gala in New York City. The actress attended the event in a floor-length pale blue dress with long sleeves and a deep v neckline. The sophisticated-70s look was complete with natural makeup and tousled milkmaid braids.
This summer, the bohemian look is back in full force, and if there's any celebrity we know we can count on for bohemian style inspiration, it's Jemima! Her put-together-but-natural approach to beauty and style is truly covetable, so if you're looking to incorporate a bit of boho-chic into your sumemr look, hers is the book to steal a page from!
Jemima's tousled milkmaid braids are the perfect spring/summer hairstyle. They're easy to achieve, keep hair away from your face and neck, and are even perfect for hair that isn't freshly washed (always practical during the traveling season). So, want to get the look?
Get the Look
Step one: Start with hair that's been towel-dried and distribute a bit of wave-creating spray throughout to create a natural texture. Then, if you have time, let the hair air dry. If not, use your blow dryer and scrunch the hair up with your hands as you go.
Step two: Use a tail comb to create a middle part and spritz salt spray throughout your locks. Then, gently sweep your hair back behind your ears.
Step three: Create two loose braids on each side, securing them at the ends with a hair tie. You should have braided pig tails now. To get a tousled look to your braids, use your fingers to gently pull on each side to loosen then up.
Step four: Starting on one side, guide your braid up and over the crown of your head, pinning in place as you go. Then, do the same on the other side. Tuck the ends in behind your ears and pin them with bobby pins.
Step five: Spray your hair all over with hairspray and you're all set!
