Happy Thanksgiving! In honour of the holiday, we're gaining inspiration from the fallen leaves and autumn season to give you 5 makeup shades you need to incorporate into your beauty routine for fall. Whether you prefer more subtle, basic shades or a look that stands out amongst the crowd, there's a fall colour for you.
The only question left is: How exactly can you incorporate all of autumn's beautiful shades into your makeup routine? Luckily for us, bold shades of red, orange, green and brown are being used in unique ways on fall runways (see: red eye makeup), meaning there are even more ways to include these fall shades onto our faces this season. Our only tip? Don't be afraid to go bold and try out new colours and techniques!
So, without further ado, here are 5 fall shades you need to add to your beauty bag this season!
5 FALL SHADES TO INCORPORATE INTO YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE
For some, orange may seem a little over-the-top when it comes to makeup shades, but luckily for us, the bright autumn colour has been taken down a notch for our beauty needs. Rust shades (or in other words, dark orange) have been popping up on it-girls and runways since the season began, adding a warm tone to pale complexions, and not to mention, helping blue eyes pop! Add a rust or dark orange coloured shadow to your beauty routine this season, and pair it with a bold lipstick or rosy cheeks! For a seriously stand-out look, wear your rust-coloured shadow on your upper and lower lash lines and enhance with volumizing mascara!
While plum has always been a cool weather makeup staple, dark shades of plum, maroon and even black have been contributing to this season's vampire lipstick trend, seen on multiple fall 2016/17 runways and our fave celebs. The trick to updating plum lips for fall 2016/17? Skip the eye makeup all together and keep all the focus on your statement pout. For the appearance of larger lips, try the contouring trick. Simply use two different shades of the same colour, and apply the darker shade on your top and bottom lips, then apply the lighter shade in the middle of your lips.
When most people think of red makeup, they think of a classic red lip. This season, swap your red lipstick for a bold red eye shadow to enhance your eyes and warm up your skin tone. When choosing a lip colour to compliment your red shadow, opt for nude gloss and a matte complexion. Enhance it with red glitter for a ultra glam fall look!
For those who prefer a more classic and subtle makeup look, incorporate light and dark shades of brown eyeshadow into your makeup routine to create a bronzed smoky eye. To do this, start by creating a base on your lids using a light brown shadow. Next, apply a darker brown on the outer corners of your eyes, creating a slight cat eye shape with your angled shadow brush. Apply the same dark shade on the lower lash line of your eye, then finish off with a lighter shimmery brown on your inner corners. Further enhance your new look with a voluminous mascara or graphic liner!
It may seem like a bold shade when it comes to makeup, but green can easily be incorporated into anyone's simple beauty routine. At this year's Toronto International Film Festival, both Lily-Rose Depp and Natalie Portman wore green shadow that was enhanced by green gowns. Later on, at this year's Emmy Awards, Emily Ratajkowski showed off her own version of the trend by wearing a thick layer of turquoise liner on her upper and lower lash lines. For a more subtle approach to green, take note from Natalie and Lily with a soft green shade of shadow. If you'd prefer a bolder approach, opt for a green liner to outline and enhance your eyes.
