HOLIDAY MAKEUP INSPIRATION: 4 LOOKS
DRAMATIC SMOKY EYES
The dark, cold winter season is the perfect time to experiment with, well, dark makeup. If you're attending a holiday party, add a touch of glamour to a dark look by trying out the dramatic black and grey smoky eye spotted on the runway at Roberto Cavalli.
To do this, start of by arming yourself with a palette of grey and black eye shadows. Apply the dark grey eye shadow on your lid as a base, then apply a black shadow on the outer corners of your eyes and into your crease. Blend the shadow to your lower lash line, then use a different shadow brush to apply a dot of white shimmery shadow onto your inner corners. Use a black kohl liner to add more drama to your look, then use a blending brush to blend it into your smoky eye. Finish off with a layer of volumizing mascara.
While glitter has always been a holiday staple, it's appearance on multiple runways throughout the year will make this feminine accent a must-try for your next holiday party. Whether it's on your nails, your eyelids or your lips, a little bit of glitter adds the perfect amount of glam to your look. For a subtle approach to the trend that's perfect for holiday parties, copy the look spotted at Tommy Hilfiger's Winter 2016/17 show.
Start off by creating a base on your lids with a medium brown eye shadow. Then, using your fingers, apply a glitter formula and colour of your choice (gold looks great!) onto the portion of your lid closest to your lashes. To keep them in place, you can apply a small amount of lip gloss onto your lids. If you're feeling extra daring, create an ombre effect with the glitter by applying a small amount on the upper portion of your lid.
One of the easiest ways to create a statement look for your next holiday party is to swipe on a layer of dark lipstick. At Bottega Veneta, models took the runway with plum pouts and dark brown shadow that gave them a sophisticated look for the holiday season.
To re-create this look, get your hands on L'Oreal's Nude 1 shadow palette. Apply a champagne shade onto your eyelids and a dark brown shadow on the outer corners of your eyes. Blend using a fluffy shadow brush then fill your lashes with a volumizing mascara. To complete the look (and the main attraction of your face), apply L'Oreal's Infallible Black Cherry lipstick onto your lips.
Can't decide between dramatic liner or a glittery look? Why not try both? Take note of the glitter cat-eyes worn at models at Puglisi, and use a black pencil liner to outline a V-shape on the corners of your eyes. Using your fingers, apply a glitter colour of your choice onto the V you created with the liner. Finish off with a few layers of mascara and voila!
