On Sunday, November 20th, celebrities gathered in Los Angeles to honour musicians and artists along with their most popular songs at the 2016 American Music Awards. A-listers like Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss , Nina Dobrev and Lady Gaga, among others, were all in attendance, looking as stylish as ever. And while we were busy catching up on the hottest hair and makeup trends on the red carpet, we almost forgot to take note of a smaller detail: Red carpet manicures.
While most celebrities coated their nails with gorgeous fall/winter shades, there was one manicure in particular that caught our eye. Singer Janelle Monae complemented her black and white striped ensemble with a metallic silver manicure amped up with decorative dots.
Metallic is a major trend in the beauty world for winter, so why not try this one out for your next holiday party? Read on to find out how to achieve this manicure for yourself!
HOLIDAY MANICURE: METALLIC WITH DECORATIVE DOTS
To get this look you will need:
- A nail file
- A nail buffer
- Clear top coat
- Clear base coat
- Metallic silver nail polish
- Black nail polish
- A small nail brush or stencil
Step 1: Start your manicure off the way you always should: By soaking your nails in warm, soapy water for about 10 minutes. This will remove any dirt from your nails and soften them up before you begin.
Step 2: Once your nails are perfectly clean, use your nail file to shape them to your preference. Janelle rocked a round, slightly pointed set of nails that added a little extra life to her manicure. To get this look, file your nail down on an angle on one side, and then again on the opposite angle on the other side. This should leave you with a slight point at the tips of your nails. Finish off by rounding them out slightly at the top, while keeping the pointy shape.
Step 3: Once you've perfected your shape, use your nail buffer to remove any lines or edges from your nails and smoothen them out to prep for polish.
Step 4: Now for the fun part. Start your manicure by prepping your nails with a clear base coat. Apply one coat to each nail, then wait until the coat dries before moving on to step 5.
Step 5: Once your base coat has dried, apply one coat of metallic silver polish to each nail. Once the first coat dries, apply a second coat. Wait until the polish dries before proceeding to the next step.
Step 6: Once the metallic has dried, use your stencil or nail brush with a thin tip to apply dots using the black polish onto each nail. Dip the brush into the black nail polish and apply one black dot in the centre of each nail.
Step 7: Once the black polish has dried, apply one layer of clear top coat onto each nail. Wait for it to dry, then wow your friends and fam with your DIY manicure.
