A look adopted by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Demi Lovato and Sienna Miller, cat eyes (confusingly enough, also called doe eyes) are a classic make-up style. First becoming a trend in the sixties, the look is still a chic go-to style half a century later.
Perfect for any occasion and surprisingly easy to achieve, cat eyes will give you the perfect retro look. Keep reading to find out how.
The perfect base
It's important, for any make-up look, to start of with a good base. Make sure you choose a foundation that's right for your skin-tone and apply it evenly for a smooth blemish-free look. Don't apply too much, remember it's your face, not a wall that you're painting.
Next, apply some blusher, starting near your hairline at the top of your cheekbones and work your way in gently and lightly. Whether you fancy a traditional rose colour or a summery apricot shade, your cheeks are your oysters...
Don't be afraid of the eyeliner!
Now for the not-so-complicated part (we promise!): applying the eyeliner.
Take your time; begin by tracing a line along your lashline. Use little strokes rather than one long sweep, it's a lot easier and you get better coverage, too. Start off small, you can always increase the thickness of your eyeliner later if you feel like it. Next, add a slight flick of eyeliner to the outside corners of your eyes to get the classic cat-eye outline.
The finishing touches
Finally, apply a coat of lash-lengthening black mascara. Start at the base of your lashes, closest to your eye, and work outwards. This will give you the best coverage, making your lashes look as long as possible.
Now you can breathe a sigh of relief as you apply the lipstick of your choice to complete your perfect cat-eye look.
Easy, chic and timeless, why not try cat eyes for yourself?
