Have you always dreamed of naturally voluminous hair? If you have fine or flat locks, or if your hair is too heavy, don't worry. It's still possible to get thick, luscious locks with a little help from the right products and some top tips by our hair experts.
As voluminous hair is currently a must-have on runways and red carpets alike, we thought that we would share our secrets with you so that you, too, can achieve a sensational hairstyle from morning to night!
So, without further ado, here are our top five tips for bringing long-lasting volume to your locks.
1) Choose a light shampoo
Fine hair has the tendancy to become greasier more quickly which can create that "stuck to the head" and weigh the hair down. To counter this effect, choose a light, volume-boosting shampoo. This will create root lift and volume, as well as preparing your hair for the use of styling products. For maximum effect, massage the shampoo into your scalp for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
2) Create root lift
To add to the effects of the volume boosting shampoo, use a product that's especially formulated to create root lift. Enriched with collagen, the root lifting spray instantly plumps fine and flat hair, from root to tip. Apply it to damp hair for 24 hours of amplified volume.
3) Perfect your drying technique
Your blow-drying technique will make all the difference between flat and full-bodied hair. For maxium body, arm yourself with a barrel brush and start to blow-dry your hair at the roots. With the brush, pull your hair upward to defy gravity. Tip your head forward several times, while directing the air onto your hair. Finally, blow-dry the lengths and ends while scrunching them with your hands to give them body.
4) Try the sideswept look
One simple way to create volume is by styling you hair into a sideswept hairstyle. Create a deep side part, then sweep the body of your hair over one shoulder. Gathering all of the hair together will create the illusion of volume.
5) Style it
Finally, you can perfect your thick locks with several styling techniques. Use a comb to gently tease your roots, then spray them with a volumizing spray. For XXL curls, apply a heat protectant and use a curling iron. To add texture, apply a texturizing spray then muss the hair with your fingertips.
Finally, fix your look in place with a strong hold hairspray.
