On November 11th, the premiere of Nocturnal Animals was held in Westwood, California. The red carpet was filled with ultra-stylish stars who added the perfect dose of glamour to the night with their shimmery gowns and sultry beauty looks. But as expected, two beauties in particular caught our eye with their unique takes on a simple hairstyle: The ponytail. Both Alexis Ren and January Jones amped up the classic ponytail with their own touch.
And since we're always looking for new ways to rock this easy trend, Get The Look is showing you how to re-create both looks for a super simple, yet chic hairstyle! Ready to add your own modern touch to one of the most basic hairstyles out there? Read on!
2 NEW WAYS TO AMP UP YOUR PONYTAIL
ALEXIS REN: WRAP IT UP
19-year-old American actress Alexis Ren turned heads at the premiere of Nocturnal Animals wearing a sparkly sequin gown and a long, Rapunzel-esque ponytail that was wrapped up like a Christmas present, offering us the perfect holiday hairstyle inspiration. A thin string or ribbon was wrapped in a criss-cross fashion around the top portion of the ponytail, keeping it low on her head and perfectly put-together.
This look is most flattering on those with long or medium length hair, so keep that in mind before you begin. To start this look off, make sure your hair is completely smooth and straight. Start by spraying your hair with a heat protective spray, then use a flat iron to straighten it out. Next, create a smooth texture by distributing serum into your hair from root tip using your hands. Brush your hair out to create the ultimate smooth texture.
Once you've achieved a smooth look, pull your hair back into a ponytail at the bottom of your head, so that your hair brushes against your back. Next, take a long string in a colour of your choice (or an ultra thin ribbon), and wrap it around the top portion of your ponytail, crossing the string over itself. Once you've reached the end of the string, tie it together in a knot to ensure a look that lasts!
JANUARY JONES: ADD YOUR OWN TWIST
The twisted ponytail is nothing new, but January Jones put her own surprising spin on the trend last week. If you have shorter hair, this is the look for you!
To re-create her hairstyle, start by parting your hair over to one side using a tail comb. Spray the top of your head with a shine finish hairspray, then use the comb to brush the hair down flat and make sure there are no flyaways. Pull your hair into a ponytail in the middle of your head, then secure with an elastic. Next, take a smaller section of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the remaining chunk of hair, over the front and back around in a circular motion. Secure your ponytail with another elastic, leaving a few inches of hair free below it.
