Kelly Osbourne's braided bun for the Make A Wish gala: hair tutorial

by Hannah Ikin -

When Kelly Osbourne attended the Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles 30th Anniversary Gala, she was rocking a great red carpet look enhanced by her long black dress and her braided topknot hairstyle. We loved her quirky bun so much, that we decided to create an easy tutorial for it.

Beautiful and braided

We've really come round to the idea of Kelly's purple hair and we try to keep an eye on it to see what wild and wonderful styles she comes up with. This braided bun is a real gem of a hairstyle. We love the contrast between the braid and the sleek fringe and it just seems to bring out the vibrant purple colour so well. It's a new and exciting way to wear the braided trend as well and, because it involves a neat bun, it's also a surprisingly chic look!

Get the look

Getting Kelly's quirky topknot is much easier than it looks (provided you don't have really short hair). Just follow the steps below.

Step one

Apply a straightening product to damp hair after washing and brushing it and blowdry your locks whilst brushing them through.

Step two

Pull you hair up into a high ponytail and fasten with an elastic. If you have bangs then simply brush them straight down.

Step three

Braid your ponytail using the classic braiding style and fasten at the very bottom with an invisible hair elastic. Try and keep things neat as any messy bits will show up.

Step four

Wrap the braid in a spiral around your hair braid and fix in place with hair clips. Spray some hairspray over the style so as to keep everything in place.

Now you know how to achieve a simple braided bun style (though whether you dare to make it a purple one or not is entirely up to you)!
