For most women, having large, plumped up lips is a major beauty bonus. Larger lips reveal a woman's sensuality and can even give her a more feminine appeal that charms those that cross her path. Most of us strive to make our lips appear larger by seriously over-lining them, trying out lip-plumping glosses and even opting for cosmetic surgery (a procedure that can totally be avoided!)
In other words, every woman dreams of having large Angelina Jolie-like lips that grace the faces of supermodels and now, Kylie Jenner, who has given us even more reason to covet an oversized, plump smile.
So, what do you do when you have small, thin lips? We've put together a few tips that will help you increase the volume of your mouth, without having to try out every lip-plumping product, or worse, undergoing cosmetic surgery.
CREATE A PLUMP LOOK WITH HIGHLIGHTER
One of the many ways you can create the appearance of full, plumper lips, requires no lip products at all. All you need to a little highlighter or a concealer that is lighter than your skin tone to create the illusion of a larger pout.
To start, lightly line the outline of your lips using your highlighter or concealer. Next, highlight the skin between your Cupid's bow, and around the outline of your Cupid's bow. This will define the outline of your lips, giving them a larger overall appearance.
LINE YOUR LIPS
Many of us simply forget to use lip liner when it comes to applying makeup in the morning before work. Quick touch-ups also seem a little easier when all you have to do is apply a stroke of colour across your top and bottom lip once or twice, but if you want larger lips, you're going to need to double up on the product!
Use an angled brush and the Colour Riche Palette, line the outside of your lips with the darkest shade of lip colour. You can even shade a little colour onto the surface of your lips to create more layers, and therefore fuller looking lips. Next, using the same colour that is one or two shades lighter than your liner colour, fill in the surface of your lips.
If you're feeling extra daring, try the Kylie Jenner technique: over-lining. To do this, simply line the outline of your lips using a colour of your choice, but draw the line slightly past the outline of your lips to create the illusion of a larger mouth. This one takes a lot of practice, but when done right, works like a charm!
LEARN THE "SHADING" TECHNIQUE
Also known as lip contouring, the shaded technique requires two different shades of lipstick in order to create the illusion of a fuller pout. Using L'Oreal's Colour Riche Lip Palette, start by covering your lips with the darker shade of desired lipstick. Next, apply the lighter shade directly in the centre of your lips, creating a contoured look that will make your lips appear larger by illusion.
OPT FOR A TWO-TONED MOUTH
If you aren't afraid to take beauty risks, you can also try the two-toned mouth trend. While the shaded technique requires a blending of two different shades, the two-toned trend contrasts a darker and lighter shade side by side. Using the palette, apply the darker shade of lipstick on your upper lip, and the lighter colour on the bottom lip. The trick is to go for two different shades of the same colour, making sure that the contrast isn't too stark. This will give you the appearance of larger lips, without looking like a clown.
LAYER WITH LIP GLOSS
Lip gloss has been known in the beauty world to create the impression of a more voluminous smile. It will reflect the light and bring attention to your lips, making them appear fuller. The best part about lip gloss? It can be layered over just about any texture or shade of lipstick, which helps in creating a thicker formula and therefore, a thicker pout. If you aren't a fan of gloss but still dream of having voluminous lips, simply apply a dot of gloss in the centre of your mouth to create dimension.
