10 hacks to make your morning routine quicker

Makeup Tips: 10 beauty hacks to try when you're about to be late

by Paige Exell -

We've all had to make that difficult decision between looking our best in the morning, or hitting the snooze button for a few more minutes of sleep. And more often that not, that little extra sleep takes priority, leaving you with only a short amount of time to perform your morning skin care routine and apply makeup before running out the door.

So, to make sure you're on time(-ish) to brunch/work/date-night for once, Get The Look is offering you 10 beauty hacks to make your morning routine that much quicker and totally stress-free!

10 BEAUTY HACKS TO USE WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE LATE

HIDE BEDHEAD WITH A BRAID

If you wake up with bangs that are out of control and can't be tamed, work them into a style, like a headband braid or a boho twist. That way, you won't have to worry about being late because you were dealing with showering, or at least wetting your bands, and then having to blow them out.

CREATE PRETTY WAVES WITH A FLAT IRON

Don't have time to curl your hair? Create pretty, undone waves by flat-ironing your braid. While your straightener heats up, braid your hair in a traditional braid. Then, pass your flat iron over the braid a few times. Finally, unravel your braid once it cools and voila: You've got gorgeous, bend-y waves.

USE HAND OR BODY LOTION AS ANTI-FRIZZ CREAM

Typical anti-frizz products contain hydrating ingredients to keep your strands looking smooth, which most lotions also contain. So, if you run out of anti-frizz cream and need to tame your hair quickly in the morning, reach for hand or body lotion in its place.

ACHIEVE BEACH-Y WAVES WITH A BUN

Instead of hating on your morning commute, use it to your advantage and let some salt spray and heat from your head work together to create cool-girl beachy waves. Simply spritz your hair with the salt spray, wrap it up into a bun, and then unravel it when you get to work!

SPRITZ YOUR BRUSH WITH FRAGRANCE

If your hair isn't to the point where you need dry shampoo, but you'd like it to smell nice when you flip your ponytail, spray your favourite fragrance onto a brush and then run it through your hair. Whatever you do, don't spray your scent directly on your strands, since the alcohol in the formula can dry them out.

APPLY DRY SHAMPOO AT NIGHT

If you're hair is getting a little bit on the oily side and you don't have time to wash it in the morning, apply dry shampoo at night to allow it to set. When you wake up, you'll have perfectly tousled tresses, thanks to the tossing and turning you did while sleeping.

DIP YOUR NAILS IN ICE WATER

If you have to run out the door but need your nails painted, wait a minute or two for your polish to dry, and then dip your fingernails in a bowl of ice water to harden your polish the rest of the way.

USE A MAKEUP WIPE FOR THE PERFECT SMOKY EYE

The most effective way to create a smoky cat-eye is to apply your favourite shadow using a fluffy brush, extending it a bit beyond the outer corner of your eye. Then, take a makeup wipe and gently swipe away the shadow at the outer corner at an angle to reveal a precise winged smoky eye that looks like you spent a ton of time on it!

CONTOUR YOUR CHEEKBONES IN ONE MOVE

Being late means little time for your typical two-step contour and highlight routine. To keep things shorter, cut out one step by contouring and highlighting at the same time. How, you ask? Run the bottom part of a makeup brush over a darker contour powder and the top part of the same makeup brush over a highlighter, and then apply it in one swoop. You can also try out a dual-toned product, like L'Oreal's Infallible Pro Contour Palette, that contains a brush that fits to the curves of your cheekbone, contouring and highlighting perfectly in one move.

FIX SMUDGED MAKEUP WITH CONCEALER

Having to rush your morning makeup routine often results in smudged lipstick or a distorted cat eye. Rather than wiping off the rest of your makeup with a wipe in attempts to fix your mistake, cover it up with a concealer that matches your skin colour. It's like it never happened!
