Makeup Tips: 3 summer wedding makeup ideas

by Paige Exell -

With wedding season in full swing, many of us may find ourselves overwhelmed with searching for the perfect dress(es), deciding which colour makeup to wear, or how to do our hair differently for several different occasions.

And what's the cardinal rule of weddings? Don't overshadow the bride. Whether you're a bridesmaid or a guest, you want to look elegant and put together without stealing the bride's thunder. Of course, wearing a white dress is a major no-no, but makeup rules are a little bit trickier. And while sticking with neutrals is often a safe bet, it isn't always the most interesting.

So, how do we stand out, look elegant, and make sure not to overshadow the bride? Get The Look has 3 summer wedding makeup ideas for each type of wedding you attend!

RED LIP, MINIMAL EYE MAKEUP

If you're attending a classic, traditional type wedding, stick to the same classic look when applying your makeup for the evening. Opt for a bold red lip that will stand out amongst the crowd, but pair it with minimal eye makeup – think light brown shadow and a bit of mascara – In order not to overshadow the bride with a dramatic, stand-out look.

COLOURFUL EYES, NUDE LIP

If you're attending a backyard wedding with a fun, playful environment, play around with your look and try out a colourful shadow and lip. To keep your bold look low-key, opt for a pastel shade or a light colour (think light purple with a little shimmer) shadow, and create contrast with a bright pink lip. Finish off with a touch of mascara and a little highlighter to create an angelic look.

BRONZED GODDESS

Attending a paradise beach wedding? Enhance your sun-kissed glow with shades of gold, brown, and nude for the ultimate bronzed goddess beach-babe look. To start, unify your complexion, then powder the apples of your cheeks with bronzer. Use a golden shade of brown shadow on your upper lids, and create a shadow by sweeping it underneath your lower lash line as well. Apply a few coats of mascara on your lashes, and finish off the look with a nude shade of lipstick with brown undertones. This will enhance your natural beauty without taking any attention away from the bride!
