5 tips for hiding a hangover

Makeup Tips: 5 ways to hide a hangover

by Paige Exell -

It's Monday, meaning that third glass of wine with dinner, or that bartender who was too generous with his vodka-to-soda ratio over the weekend aren't quite agreeing with you anymore. Whatever the reason for your Monday blues, we've accepted that it just happens sometimes, so bring on the unattractive consequences. Ideally, we'd spend Monday's in bed with Netflix and a ton of greasy food, but busy schedules and errands force us to resist the urge to call in sick. We need to wipe that hangover gaze from our faces and carry on with our commitments.

But how do you fake being in prime condition while battling blotchy skin, glossy eyes, and an overall look of dehydration? Get The Look is giving you 5 basic products to add to your beauty regimen that will help keep your night of partying between you and your friends. Warning: these tips won't fix your headache!

BROW GEL

The key to hiding your hangover is to look like you had a full night's sleep. An easy way to get that bright-eyed, bushy-tailed look? Well-defined brows. Whether yours are Delevingne-worthy or thin and sparse, try filling in and brushing out your brows with a tinted brow gel and comb. The brush will tame unruly brows while the tint will give you a fuller, thicker look (just make sure the shade is the same colour as your hair!).

This trick is especially useful if you don't have time to perform your usual heavy shadow and liner routine. Just flick on a few coats of mascara, finish off with brow gel and you're ready to take on the day!

BB CREAM

While it might be tempting to cover up your base with a thick foundation when your complexion is suffering, the drying effects of alcohol mean foundations don't apply as seamlessly. Swap heavy makeup for a lightweight BB cream blended with a drop of highlighter (to brighten up your complexion), and you'll reap the hydrating rewards of the base and boast a youthful glow. Remember to apply a healthy dose of moisturizer before applying anything to your complexion to ensure a smooth application!

TINTED LIP BALM

We know how it is, all of those drinks have left you with quite the dehydrated pout – not a good look! After exfoliating your lips to remove any dry flakes, apply a rich, buttery lip balm. Try to opt for one that has been formulated with natural oils to condition lips and provide long-lasting hydration.

An option that boasts a rosy tint and glossy finish is best, as it's an easy way to brighten up your look and appear totally revitalized.

COLOUR CORRECTION CONCEALER

If your usual concealer isn't cutting it when it comes to calming morning-after eyes, grab a palette of colour correctors that tackle all kinds of discolouration. If you're looking to correct red, flushed skin, go for a green concealer. If you're looking to hide those dark circles and blue tones under your eyes, opt for a warm beige. Lastly, if dull, dry skin is your main enemy after a night-out, lilac tones will reverse this unwanted effect. It's all about clever concealing!

BLUSH

Sick, dull and dehydrated-looking skin will need some help in the blushing department, but any old blush won't do. A cream base is best of amp of luminosity and create a glowing, healthy look. Try a bright, blue-toned pink blush on the apples of your cheeks for a slight flush, then blot the same hue on your lips to create a pretty, natural-looking stamp of colour.

By wearing blue undertones so close to your eyes and teeth, you'll enhance their whiteness and brightness, too. Hangover? What hangover?
